Inglis

Wall Street Journal:

South Carolina Rep. Bob Inglis made a name for himself in the late 1990s as one of Bill Clinton's most zealous pursuers, an impeachment "manager" who attacked the moral failings of the president with a gusto that earned him a devoted following in the staunchly conservative "Upstate" of conservative South Carolina.

But with his governor now felled by similar temptations, Inglis sees an opening for the Republican Party, a chance to "lose the stinking rot of self-righteousness" and "to understand we are all in need of some grace."

“lose the stinking rot of self-righteousness” and “to understand we are all in need of some grace.”

if you have lost it, do not worry -----there are a lot of commenters on this site who have found it.

Oh, don't you worry. Ingliss hasn't lost any of his stink and I think the only grace he is looking for is for his fellow neocons. Won't find that here. It's called karma. And it appears it's run over his dogma.

The stance these guys took during the Clinton impeachment has become the touchstone for calling out hypocracy in the GOP. While Clinton's affair(s) was (were) not lauditory, the GOP witchhunt that insued was the worst thing that has happened to this country in a long time. The last two years of Clinton's presidency were bogged down with this single issue, which did not effect the lives of most people in America. Then, when the republicans got to office in 2000, they had no real ideas for governing.

I do think looking at a politician's family, conduct is important to get a sense of "character" but I think once a politician is in office and the pressure takes its toll and invariably, something like this happens, the side show is incredibly bad for the country or the state. Save it for the election, unless dead bodies are piling up behind the governor's mansion.

Yet, during those terrible weeks and months, President Clinton never disappeared or shirked his duty. He kept soldiering on and left his successor a balanced budget and a surplus.

...yes, your party is in need of some "grace"...and some brains and a little humanity wouldn't hurt, either.

The GOP = The Revisionist Whig Party.

....powered wigs appropriate for putting on airs while in Congress or in public, now available at Virginia's Wig World for a mere pittance of .74 cents. First come first serve.

It's all the same. It's the Clinton Curse, GOP and you got it all over your little party...

Why on earth do US citizens vote for people who's first allegiance is to the Bible and not the Constitution? The Bible has nothing to do with our government, as a matter of fact, it is expressly separated from our government. Yet these Bible thumpers still get elected to positions of power where they can spread the influence of their mythology and undermine the principals of the founding fathers. Zeus save us all!

At some point in time voters are going to have to understand these religious wackos are just that people with severe mental problems totally detached from reality via their preferences for beliefs over science.

The biggest problem is they are out there breeding and instilling the same nonsense in their vulnerable children rendering most of them helpless against what they have to face in the real world.

Because as Stalin said... religion was "the opium of the masses".

Not because Religion is bad or wrong but it tends to lull or put people to sleep to adverse consequences to the unaware when used by power hungry people.

It was Marx and the word was "opiate." Sorry. I think that what religion does is take away people's sense of personal responsiblity. Anything they do can be "God's will."

He lost me at jeebus and the gospels. Can't these hypocrites just be decent for decency's sake? It makes me wonder, how many abortions have these sanctimonious, holier-than-thou, right-to-life moralists arranged for their wives, daughters and mistresses? A lot, I bet.

When it comes to actual morality and ethics, those on the right are all form and no substance.

Yes Bob, it's true, you should "lose the stinking rot of self-righteousness". But, even more important to most of us is that you should also just go away and stay out of anything having to do with our political system.

So this hypocrite chased down Clinton but is unwilling to chase down his fellow Republicans - is that essentially his point?

Clinton wasn't "in need of some grace." But, his fellow Republicans are?

Is it within the realm of possibility for someone to be fuller of self-righteous, hypocrical malarky?

No integrity whatsoever.
