Fox News Apologizes For Identifying Sanford As Democrat

On Wednesday, a Fox News chyron mistakenly identified Republican South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford as a Democrat during his press conference announcing his extramarital affair.

At about 2:30 Thursday afternoon, Trace Gallagher, of Fox News' "Live Desk," offered this on-air apology:

"We just want to make a correction to something we put up on the screen during our coverage of the governor's press conference yesterday. We briefly identified Governor Sanford as a Democrat. He is, of course, a Republican and we apologize for getting it wrong."

2:30 Thursday afternoon! Notice it wasn't in primetime when the mistake was made. Now they can say the mistake was corrected... but not while many of the sheep were watching!

Trace Gallagher's on-air apology should have read as follows:

"We just want to make a correction to something we put up on the screen during our coverage of the governor's press conference yesterday. We briefly identified ourselves as a news channel. We are, of course, anything but and we apologize for getting it wrong."

Nope, Fox- not NEARLY enough to be considered an apology for betraying your viewers with false information, important information, about Sanford's being Republican. Hello, ever since Strom Thurmond changed parties, from Democrat to Republican, SC, my home state, has voted Republican in most every election. Not EVERY election, but pretty darned close. And a short apology at a time when most probably didn't even hear it? No, no, you need to post a scrolling apology across the bottom of the tv screen and continually run that Fox was WRONG in their reporting of Sanford's party affiliation. Anything less is not enough and anyone who listens to Fox news and believes anything that they say, well, let me just say, don't even kid yourself that you're getting the real story. On ANYTHING. Read what Associated Press, which has a historical background of only reporting actual facts that have been genuinely verified, prints, if you want to get true news.

only way it can be called a "mistake" is if they also made the "mistake" of reporting that Blago was a Rethug, and for the next 37 (that's how many times they've done this convenient D mistake after a R scandal) times a democrat has a scandal they show him as an R for the entire breaking story day, then at midnight 24 hours later correct it with a 10 second verbal acknowledgement - that would be fair and balanced
