Media Matters:

With the House preparing to vote on the American Clean Energy and Security Act, congressional Republicans have stepped up their efforts to smear the Democrats' cap-and-trade bill. However, Greg Sargent points out that the GOP's opposition is not only at odds with the American people, which at this point is par for the course, but also with a significant number of Republican voters.

Some people believe in climate change, some people don't. The experts who believe in climate change make their points, the experts who don't believe in climate change make their points. I think everyone believes in pollution. Our elected officials only vote for the corporations that pay them the most money for their votes. This is where the real problem begins. The corporations with all the wealth make the laws. They do not care about the planet, they do not care about we the people, they only care about obscene profits. Our government resists change that has been tried and proven through out the world, because they don't like change. Our government doesn't want to take on big corporations. They are content to let them keep destroying our country. If the government would subsidize wind turbines and solar panels or shingles for individual homes, a lot of people would be able to get off the grid. That would help massively to curtail the use of coal. The coal companies would of course oppose this. The auto companies could have already had a car that went 100 miles per gallon of gas. The oil companies are against this and have fought tooth and nail for years to stop autos that get excellent gas mileage. This would help to ease our dependency on foreign oil and strengthen our national security. Why have none of these things be accomplished? Because our government has sold we the people out, corporations rule the world.

Did anyone else hear that Representative Boehner's face turns orange when he is lying?

There is so much incomplete reporting these days it is not even funny.
1. repubs saying that cap and tax will cost the American people many many thousands of dollar but in reality it comes to somewhere around $175 in the year 2020. I am not rich by any means, lower middle class if anything and I can afford $175. Stop and think people, just how much we all waste every payday on things that we really do not need!!
2. news, tv and others yelling at top of voice about the health care costing 1+trillion. What the FAIL to say is this price is over a period of 10 years.
The American people are TIRED of the lies, TIRED of the half truths. IF you can not report on something without putting you opinion into the mix or leaving something out of the mix, FIND ANOTHER FLIPPIN JOB.

The CBO report says this: ""The resource cost does not indicate the potential decrease in gross domestic product (GDP) that could result from the cap."

The report only estimates the average cost per family of the amount need to operate the trading program in 2020, which also happens the year before the restrictions really kick in.

Artificial restriction of cheap energy will raise the cost of everything you do. It will fall more heavily on the manufacturing than the service sector, so more manufacturing will be driven offshore.

The manufacturing industry already deals with cap and trade in other areas. They will innovate and find ways to deal with the new cap and trade requirements, just as they've done in the past. These same sky is falling statements were made before all other cap and trade legislation was passed, and the industries have managed to thrive - some even finding that trading unused vouchers can become a revenue stream.

This is not artificial rstriction of cheap energy. It's a leap toward progress - and it's necessary. We have already fallen behind the rest of the world in this area - and we need the incentives in this bill in order to create jobs in a new industry that will replace the old economy jobs that will never return. Manufacturing will not be driven offshort - we'll create a whole new onshore industry. And if companies want to punish Americans by going elsewhere, then they're not very American, are they...?

We already have cap-and-trade.

You see we used to have a problem with acid rain. Some of you might remember it.

So we put a cap-and-trade process in place on the pollutant that causes acid raid.

We don't have a problem with acid rain anymore... and that cap-and-trade policy is still in use.

I'm having problems seeing exactly what about cap-and-trade is an issue. You can argue that we don't need to use it in this case, but the process itself is proven to work. If we use it on a pollutant, the amount of that pollutant in our atmosphere WILL go down.

The GOP does not know how to govern, they are not for the people and they think they were elected just to say NO in congress. I mean how hard can a job be. I wish someone would elect me and pay me just to disagree every day.

Almost every activity we do emits CO2. This is much different than regulating a limited number of plants that emit the precursors to acid rain.

Once again, misdirection from this site.

If the Democrats want this bill, they can pass it without Republicans.

This is what the article says:

"That message has failed to sway liberal and moderate Republicans, 60 percent of whom back a cap-and-trade program"

What percentage of Republicans are liberal and moderate? I don't know and the article doesn't say, but we're talking about 60% of an unspecified percentage of Republicans.

Cheer up we can Keep buying stuff made in Communist China and borrowing from Communist China,,, because we are such successful capitalist or importing from all those countires with single payer healthcare (the rest of the world) because we cant compete and make stuff here because of the cost of healthcare. here...

You know countries like Germany, just a population of 82 million, but number one exporter in the world and completely unionized. And they dont export raw materials/ agriculture for the most part... low vaue added 3rd world exports like us...
Yes we can continue to give the insurance companies 40% of every healthcare dollar who treat no one and pay 3 times more for the same drug as in the rest of the world and in both cases.. drugs and insurance they have outsourced their employees to countires with government healthcare.

Regards

The usual misinformation campaign is once again being expensively foisted on the public by the PIGS.
More SWINE POO.

We need to move the vested interests into clean renewable energy and this is the best way at the cheapest cost I have heard of.

As to health care I find myself wondering why there is NO DEBATE about having the federal Government negotiate directly with the Pharms to controll prices just as Canada does.
Instead we see weak minded ideas about allowing importation of foriegn drugs.
This is a Lame attempt to keep the majority of people and the insurance companies paying far too much for medicines.

We can do this regardless of any other changes to Health Care.
It is simple, clean, and effective at making a big dent int the ongoing costs.
The Pharms are paying huge money to prevent this debate from even coming up.

PEOPLE PLEASE RAISE YOUR VOICES AND DEMAND PRICE NEGOTIATIONS.
SHake the TREE!

Didn't I see the President say during the campaign that the increase in energy cost would be about 40% I know some of you had to see this, and isn't carbon emisson less than 2% of greenhouse gas emission so if we lower it by 4% (4% of less than 2%) what kind of gain is that relative to the cost??

Since Bush came into office the cost of electric/gas increased almost 300 percent... but that was not a tax that went to the few here and the Arab world...

If there is a recovery, whats it going to cost if demand is not shrunk?

Cap and Trade is a slippery slope. I just don't think we should add more economic challenges at this time. Give us a break and wait until our healthcare costs have dropped enough that we can afford it.
