Conan is simply boring and Letterman is not really that funny and for Dave to beat Conan shows how poorly Conan does in prime time.

NBC has made a terrible decision and they will realize it by mid-November.

Sadly to say.. NBC is way off base now of days when it comes to putting the right people into the right places.

The whole NBC late night line-up is so-so. Jimmy Fallon is doing better, but Jimmy is just another Conan O' Brian at best, and Conan is almost as good as Craig Furguson, almost (if only)!

I'm sure that the higher-ups at NBC could & still can see the writing on the wall; time & circumstances has shifted in that now is the time for women to shine their brightest within all aspects of life (Television & all else), and in NBC situation, NBC should have placed Amy Pollard into one of the late-night talk show host spots (Hopefully NBC will shake things up still).

Sure NBC has other female talent that they could tap to be a late-night Television Host; however, the reason that I mentioned & suggested Amy Pollard for that sort of role is because She fits it the best as a Female figure as far as todays times call for (Amy Pollard has the a Womanly charm and plus also she can hold her own amongst the manliest of Men; comedic & personality-wise)!

If only someone was listening (ARI, HP).......

Can people show enough respect to google people's names before posting?

As soon as I saw "Amy Pollard", I quit reading. Lack of effort shows disrespect to others.

I don't stay up that late.
95% of TV is just wasted time.
and Conan is a non-entity.
? why is this "news-worthy" ?

Because Letterman is left of the Tonight Show, I guess.

Letterman was screvved over for the Tonight Show chair in favor of Leno. Carson was insensed and wrote material for Letterman until his death.

Maybe Leno should give someone else a shot and retire into another format.

But if he does: Lord, please don't let it be Conan O'Brien who succeeds Leno.

Not that!

Did something change recently at Tonight? Is there some reason the numbers would drop suddenly?

If Leno not really into the game anymore?

Conan is a lightweight. We do not watch the Tonight Show any longer and have turned to Letterman and really really love his humor, yes, especially the Palin jokes that Palin tried to get maximum press out of.

Frankly, I never understood why so many people watched Leno over Letterman. Leno was always a line-reader with a very limited capacity to ad-lib, and when he did, he oftentimes was awkward.

I guess Leno's appeal was the same as McDonald's: it was bland and flavorless, but was reliably so and consistently so, while Letterman was always a wonderful, daring and interesting gourmet meal. Taken in that light, I now understand why so many people watched Leno: he did nothing to upset, challenge or liven up the flavors of their lives; Letterman always does. But that's what makes him interesting and enjoyable to thinking people who are able to enjoy an intelligent and truly funny man.

As far as Conan O'Brien goes, when I heard they were going to give him Leno's job, I did not think he would translate from late late night to after prime time. Conan was okay for late, late night television with its limited and very peculiar audience, but his humor, though occasionally clever, is usually awkward and inappropriate, which a certain type of immature, unsophisticated mind would take to be humorous, although it is not.

I am glad people are turning to Letterman. He ranks up there with Johnny Carson, which explains why Carson supported him for so many years, even after he left the tonight show. Johnny Carson was right in his choice: Letterman is his true heir and the real king of American comedy.

I couldn't agree more. Now that I'm older, I have grown to appreciate David's style of humor and I love his self-deprecation. Conan is just too zany for that hour and, for the first time, my parents are watching Letterman too. My children, who used to like Conan, fled to cable long ago.

Conan jumped the shark when he quit writing for the Simpsons. Peter Principle in it's most black and white.

I like Conan's humor, but he is the worst interviewer on late night. No matter who his guest is, he always finds a way to interrupt the guest and twist the conversation back onto himself. What a meglomaniac. I switch off once the guests start arriving.

Although, come to think of it, a lot of his humor is Conan-centered as well. "ME, ME, ME !" Enough already.

But that's part of his humor. I mean, Colbert does it too. It's part of the fun of watching those interviews. I don't turn on Conan because I care what some movie star has to say about their new film. I watch to be entertained. And Conan has given some of the most memorable, entertaining interviews I've ever seen on a talk show, whether he injects himself into the story or not.

The Baby Boomers and the folks of the Depression era watched Johnny Carson, then Jay Leno. They will now flock to Dave. Conan is not funny and the younger people he tries to reach are into going out or the Internet, twitter, and sexting. NBC will be begging Jay to return by this FALL...two hours of Jay anyone?

Surprising news... I always liked Conan as well as Jay more than Letterman. He just rubs me the wrong way. Wish them both success, and have been greatly enjoying Conan's show.

Why would he? Apparently his show is doing pretty well in the ratings game, which is all that matters on tv.
