I Like ItI Don’t Like It
Obama

The Republican Women of Anne Arundel County, "one of Maryland's most prominent Republican organizations," recently posted on its website a comparison between President Obama and Adolf Hitler.

RWAAC President Joyce E. Thomann, explained, for those who don't see the similarities:

Obama and Hitler have a great deal in common in my view. Obama and Hitler use the "blitzkrieg" method to overwhelm their enemies. FAST, CARPET BOMBING intent on destruction. Hitler's blitzkrieg bombing destroyed many European cities - quickly and effectively. Obama is systematically destroying the American economy and with it AMERICA. First the banking/investment industry, next private enterprise (GM and Chrysler) and now HEALTH CARE. And he is working on grabbing more of the American economy with his environmental extremism!

The suggestion that our president resembled a fascist, genocidal dictator must have offended some people, because Thomann's missive has been taken down. In its place is this note:

"The article put on our web site by Joyce Thomann was done solely by her. Our Board of Directors never saw the article and would never have approved it.We are not in support of Mrs. Thomann's personal thoughts ot [sic] opinions."

Their email filled up, too. I know, I tried to send to them and got the mailbox full message.

Lot's of hacked-off people out there. And isn't that grand?!

Hitler used people's fear into his advantage. He turned the German people to hate and blame the Jews for all the ills in their lives. I doubt she sees the irony.

This was widely quoted during the Bush administration.

“Naturally the common people don’t want war. But after all, it is the
leaders of a country who determine the policy, and it’s always a
simple matter to drag people along whether it is a democracy or a
fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship.
Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of
the leaders. This is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are
being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and
for exposing the country to danger. It works the same in every
country.”
--- Hermann Goering, Hitler’s Reich Marshall, at the Nuremberg
Trials after World War II.

Well, Hitler did believe the populace should be educated, fit and healthy, and that everyone should have a job, and that culture was important to the country...

There the comparison ends.

You can't say any of this about any Republicans.

Right. They probably took it down because it might have endeared President Obama with their rightwing, not offend them.

Well, Obama breathes oxygen and Hitler breathed oxygen so I can see how they could make the comparison.

I find this rather painful. My grandfather was killed in a concentration camp and my mother survived. I have never seen any close historical comparison. President Obama works hard on consensus building, but there is soooooooo much hate in this country. For a "Christian Nation" we certainly are verbally cruel and unforgiving to others.

From the RWAAC website http://www.rwaac.com/
Republican Principles

I'm a Republican Because...

* I BELIEVE the strength of our nation lies with the individual and that each person's dignity, freedom, ability and responsibility must be honored.
* I BELIEVE in equal rights, equal justice and equal opportunity for all, regardless of race, creed, sex, age or disability.
* I BELIEVE free enterprise and encouraging individual initiative have brought this nation opportunity, economic growth and prosperity.
* I BELIEVE government must practice fiscal responsibility and allow individuals to keep more of the money they earn.
* I BELIEVE the proper role of government is to provide for the people only those critical functions that cannot be performed by individuals or private organizations, and that the best government is that which governs least.
* I BELIEVE the most effective, responsible and responsive government is government closest to the people.
* I BELIEVE Americans must retain the principles that have made us strong while developing new and innovative ideas to meet the challenges of changing times.
* I BELIEVE Americans value and should preserve our national strength and pride while working to extend peace, freedom and human rights throughout the world.
* FINALLY, I believe the Republican Party is the best vehicle for translating these ideals into positive and successful principles of government.

This was put up on the website AFTER a whole bunch of Thomann's ranting nonsense was taken down.

Actually, enjen, you are incorrect. That was part of their web site prior to anything posted by Ms. Thomann.

You know, I am finding this seriously upsetting. I am a lifelong Democrat. I, obviously, did not agree with most of what George Bush did while he was President; however, I never said he was Hitler, and I certainly would not have done so in a position that represents other individuals and the supposedly "loyal" opposing political party. Why are so many of these people going over the top? Might I remind the GOP that Ford, Chrysler, and GM might have been in better shape if, when the GOP ruled it all, they had not repeatedly given them automakers a pass on achieving innovative, more fuel-efficient vehicles? Might I also remind these people that the GOP has not done a thing to help Ford, GM, or Chrysler. They are far busier congratulating themselves of being the home (in the Deep South) to Japan and Korea, Inc.

As for health care, I am sick and tired of hearing how the government would ruin it. I realize we have had our current system of health care for a very long time, so it seems normal and acceptable to us, but I ask you--why do we trust insurance companies who work hard to take in more money in premiums than they pay out on claims to take good care of us, but we think the government, which would not be in the business to make a profit, will try to hurt us?

It may have had something to do with the onslaught of emails they were bombarded with when the article appeared. Their email inbox was full in very short order yesterday. The emails must have been doozies that did get through. The emails likely enlightened them to the minority view they hold and how they are further estranging themselves from the rest of Americans.

What is wrong with these freakin' people? A people (or party) should know when they're conquered.

So much hate and bigotry in a country of what is supposed to be civilized people. Fear is the greatest motivator in America and is on display on a daily basis.

It's almost amusing that the United States is so concerned about terrorism in other countries when they likely have a larger contingent of domestic terrorists within it's boundaries.

The real problem is that she correctly believed that the Republican base would believe it. They each need the one and only "Right Wing Deprogrammer". It's the decent thing to do.
