Media Matters Responds To Michael Savage Threats, Cyberstalking (VIDEO)

Yesterday, I mentioned that talk radio host Michael Savage had decided to engage in a tidy bit of web-stalking of his critics at Media Matters, threatening to put up the pictures and "pertinent information" of the organization's employees. That seemed to be an odd thing to do! Given the fact that Media Matters has been driving an argument of late, the premise of which was that right-wing media hosts had been trafficking in a sort of speech intended to incite violence and intimidation. It's sort of a bad move for Savage to step up and help prove their point. But that's what he's done, for reasons beyond understanding!

Anyway, the media watchdog has responded with one of their patented mash-up videos, intercutting an appearance Savage made on CNN with statements he's made on his own show. The juxtaposition is pretty striking! On CNN, Savage makes a labored attempt to come across as a perfectly normal guy whose church teachings forbid homosexuality and whose opinions on illegal immigration are in sync with mainstream America. But then, the next minute, on his own show, he's freaking out about "puffy-faced" men kissing. Oh, and he seems awfully threatened about multiculturalism, for some reason, shrieking about burning the Mexican flag.

Anyway, Media Matters doesn't seem too intimidated by this guy and given the fact that he doesn't seem to have any courageous convictions, it's pretty easy to see why.

This sounds alot like what ACORN did, when they paid for buses to take homeless people to the homes of AIG executives to show them how they lived and where they lived. In the same sense, they were inciting violence or the threat of it. Are they guilty of anything ? That said, no one should perswade or incite violence or harm to anyone, unless its in defence of your family, your home or your car, then it is OK.

Conservatives are deadset on proving that the other side are just as vile as they are to make it okay to be vile. If you really believe it's not okay to be vile or hateful, practice such views by calling out your own side instead of distorting the other.

Michael Savage has often on open air advocated "US military officers commit treason, sediton by doing a coup" against our elected government, often when I hear this junk one laughs but when one sees the DC shooter with his motivations Neo-Nazi, or the Abotionist Assassin whom had literature of Fox & Friends darlings Laura Ingraham & Bill Oreilly in his home when it was searched one can see any act of a fan might not reach criminal culpability but ought to be at minimum civl liable in any wrongful death suits! You hear an obviously edited out-of-context clips by Mr. Savage and everyone here is screaming for him to be put in jail and shut him up. Savage often says mean-spirited offensive comments but he never directly called for violence. The leftist media takes small stories that happen very rarely where a right-winger goes off the deep end and it indicts all conservatives of that crime. But it helps your agenda to have a boogeyman to scare people to give up their liberties. Just like when the right was in power and Republicans were so quick to give up their liberties to the Patriot Act because they were afraid of the Muslim boogeyman. Rwanda: Hate Speech

Radio television libre des mille collines RTLM

In May 2000, Georges Ruggiu, a Belgian journalist formerly with Radio television libre des mille collines (RTLM) in Rwanda, pleaded guilty to inciting killings during the genocide of 1994. At the time of writing, three more Rwandan journalists also face genocide charges at the International Criminal Tribunal on Rwanda. This is hate speech at its most extreme.


Second, RTLM played two quite distinct functions at different stages of its existence. In its early months, up until the beginning of the genocide in April 1994, it broadcast a form of subtle and entertaining anti-Tutsi propaganda.

(The evidence for the proposition that it was entertaining is that the Tutsi guerrillas of the Rwandan Patriotic Front preferred listening to RTLM than to their own radio station.)

But once the genocide started, the character of RTLM's broadcasts changed. Then it began giving details of those who were to be hunted down and killed - right down to individual descriptions and car number plates. This was not so much hate speech as direct involvement in the killing. It is not exactly clear why Ruggiu pleaded guilty before the International Tribunal, but it is more likely to relate o the latter part than the former.
