Sanford Emails Sent To Paper Months Ago, But Couldn't Be Verified

New York Times:

About six months ago, an anonymous tipster sent The State newspaper in Columbia, S.C., copies of e-mail messages supposedly exchanged between Gov. Mark Sanford and a woman named Maria in Argentina.

Reporters sent e-mail back to the originating e-mail address and to the woman, whose e-mail address was included, in an effort to verify that the messages were genuine. They never heard back, and so the paper did not publish them until Wednesday, after Mr. Sanford admitted having an affair.

How could a Governor use government emails to send his love notes? Sanford demonstrates that same lack of ethics and professionalism that Palin showed with her use of government emails.
I do wonder what would have happened had he not done his disappearing act?

Whatever can be created can be "gotten into." Regular people regularly leave their passwords in plain sight, especially the diligent ones who change their passwords often.

So, assume everything you enter into a computer, whether you delete it or not, is potentially an open record.

Must have been someone from the IT department snooping around the email server and hit the jackpot. Rule-of-thumb to all politicians: Never trust any IT people camouflaging snooping as maintenance.

All public servers are routinely backed up. Deleted isn't really "gone" , they're just in a "deleted" file.
I busted an employee who was framing another employee by having IT provide me with backed up files. I could trace how she had edited the other employee's emails. Fired her tush.

It's angering that this newspaper didn't just confront the governor months ago. Ms. Smith said on MSNBC this morning that it wasn't because they didn't believe the authenticity of the e-mails, but rather because they thought there was a "bigger story" that they should wait for. South Carolina almost lost their stimulus money because of this creep. Who knows? Had The State confronted him with the e-mails 7 months ago, he might have just 'fessed up then and there.

Is that supposed to make sympathetic for their cause? Last time I checked you wouldn't catch great leaders crying during hard times. Sanford let his personal affair affect his ability to govern and he should resign. That having been said, the publishing of these emails feels very creepy to me... and adds nothing relevant to the story as far as the public good is concerned. As sleazy as this governor is, publicly airing his personal emails serves only to needlessly add further hurt and embarrassment to Sanford's wife and children.

sanford said he owed people of faith an apology- so he never apolgized to those who do not believe. even though many of us non-believers find lying and cheating and misusing hard earned tax payer money on a mistress just as disgusting as a person of faith

Jenny deserves a husband who loves her, not one who stays with her out of duty. Sanford does not fit that bill.

You can still be a good, loving parent even if you get a divorce. That's better than staying in a loveless marriage.
