Sanford To Reimburse State For Trip To Argentina

In a statement, South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford said that he would reimburse the state for a trip to Argentina on which he met with his mistress.

"As noted by the Department of Commerce, I attended a trade mission with the Department of Commerce last June. As the agenda notes, the mission was spent meeting with government and private business officials in both Brazil and Argentina. This trip was handled very professionally by the Department of Commerce, and I'm proud of their work there.

"However, while the purpose of this trip was an entirely professional and appropriate business development trip, I made a mistake while I was there in meeting with the woman who I was unfaithful to my wife with. That has raised some very legitimate concerns and questions, and as such I am going to reimburse the state for the full cost of the Argentina leg of this trip," Gov. Sanford said.

According to documents released by the state Department of Commerce on Thursday, the state paid $8,644.03 in airfare alone for the trip -- more than $9,000 altogether.

For those in South Carolina who are collecting unemployment benefits, your governor, the international traveler, wanted to deny you extended unemployment benefits because he opposed the stimulus. He was concerned only about his own stimulus at the taxpayer's expense.

I would argue that under most circumstances the voters should ignore personal pecadilloes. But, Mark Sanford is a first class p**ck whose behaviour and attitude personify what's so hideously wrong about the Republican party.

This man needs to go.

As Sanford said, he was "crying his eyes out for five days in Argentina." Yes, when he wasn't dancing the tango all night with his girlfriend and making love under the stars, he was crying his eyes out.

Even though he looks truly sad from inside and that does evoke compassion or empathy, he was most likely crying selfishly, don't you think? I mean, he was feeling REALLY sorry for himself for losing his beautiful goilfren. His xtian frenz in DC probably told him to live it up ONE LAST TIME! When I see him, it seems the only way to really feel better is to be honest with himself about his heart and his personal desires - and share the honest truth with the world. Then, he could make an example of himself. But instead, I think he's going to retreat back to the ambitious wife.

Fair enough, the Brazil part of the trip was legitimate. This was a year ago, not this recent trip.
