Sister-In-Law Accused Of Helping Steal Millions From Dane Cook

WOBURN, Mass. — Dane Cook's sister-in-law has pleaded not guilty to charges she helped her husband steal millions of dollars from the comedian.

Erika McCauley was arraigned Thursday and ordered held on $1 million bail.

Darryl McCauley, Cook's half brother and McCauley's husband, pleaded not guilty in March to larceny and forgery.

Authorities say state police recently found more than $700,000 hidden in the McCauleys' homes in Wilmington, Mass., and York Beach, Maine. State police found nearly $900,000 in December.

Prosecutors say Darryl McCauley stole the money while he worked for Cook's company, Great Dane Enterprises. His attorney has said he denies taking money without Cook's consent.

Erika McCauley's attorney did not immediately return a message Thursday.

I can not believe Dane Cook has that amount of money. How people find him entertaining let alone "funny" amazes me. I have no ill will to him personally but the purpose of a comedian is to be funny. He falls way short in my opinion.

There is TAPE of him using material that his opening act (ari shaffer) had used several years before. Since he was carlos' opening act, we know carlos heard it. Carlos being the more famous comedian was in a position to take the material and make it his own and did.

Of COURSE they make more money, because they are doing something which people pay to enjoy. People don't pay public schools and firehouses, these services are provided for free. Someone isn't getting rich off of owning a school or a firehouse. But millions of people DO pay to go see football games and movies and comedy shows, and someone makes a LOT of money off of these things. So of course the person who provided the service (entertainment) which made the owner/producer a ton of money is going to get some of it. What do you think is the better answer, that the owner and producer keeps ALL the money, and the talent who is the reason that money was made in the first place is paid a teacher's salary?

It's also a matter of supply and demand. A lot more people are capable of becoming police officers and teachers and firemen than are capable of becoming hudgely bankable entertainers. I'm no fan, but Cook is extremely successful doling out cheap laughs to college kids.

They are called PUBLIC SERVANTS for a reason. They DECIDED to go into a job field in which you exchange a large paycheck with feeling like you make a moral contribution to society.

I work for a non profit hospital, so I'm very underpaid. That was MY decision to make. I don't begrudge people who get paid well who made a different one. It's not like if Cook made less money, I'd make more.

It's true that a lot of comedians do have the same observations. For instance Chris Rock and Bill Maher seem to have very similar mentalities because I frequently hear them making the same observations- and sometimes one will say it first, sometimes the other. There have been a couple times when there has been a big story on the news, and I've seen each of them make VERY similar comments about it on the same day on different talk shows- which gives me the impression they came up with these observations independently as opposed to "stealing" jokes.

But then there are just blatant joke stealers like Carlos Mencia.

I'm not familiar enough with Dane Cook to make the call on whether or not he's a thief. But I agree with your general point that having similar material or observations is very common in comedy acts.
