Top Ten Excuses From Governor Mark Sanford (VIDEO)

Letterman, not one to shy away from public controversy or sex jokes, devoted his top ten list last night to Mark Sanford, the South Carolina governor who recently announced he was having an affair in Argentina. Dave started out by chastising Sanford for lying about his whereabouts, not as an outraged citizen but as a common-sense affair adviser. He then launched into excuses the governor could have given for his affair that range from blaming other governors to blaming Jon and Kate.

This only matters if Gov. Sanford was being lobbied in private with "favors." He has already lied about hiking to cover up. He admits their "friendship" has been over seven years. Does anyone know what this woman does for a living besides working in some capacity for a multinational corporation based in Argentina that competes with Cargill and ADM?

His "mistress" is said to be attractive, bright and well educated; she speaks English, Chinese and Portuguese; and she lives in an expensive, and likely exclusive, area of Buenos Aires. She has two children and is recently separated from her husband.

How, where and why did these two meet? How, where and when did they have the opportunity to build a friendship? What was this friendship based on? How many trips to out of the country has Sanford made in the last seven years? Do any of Sanford's trips correlate to his "mistress's" travels, for her company or vacation?

Who cares about outrage against an obvious hypocrite when there are real questions?

You would think Letterman's writers might have learned something from the recent Palin brouhaha. Jenny Sanford is the ONLY good thing in this entire sorry ass story. She is accomplished, intelligent and classy. And, more importantly, she maintained her dignity and threw him out. Very refreshing to NOT see her at his theatrical press conference yesterday.
