Bruno Strips For Conan (VIDEO)

Sacha Baron Cohen, as Bruno, sat down for an interview on "The Tonight Show" and ended up dropping his pants for a Conan O'Brien lap dance.

After Conan asks him if he will dance, Bruno started grinding to Lady Gaga's "Lets' Dance," hopped on the desk, dropped his pants and ripped of his shirt.

I believe Conan's ratings are extremely high for the 18-49 demographic. The demographic the networks adore!

As far as Bruno... After seeing all the hype and seeing Cohen as Bruno on various shows and interviews, I find this character to be more then a bit insulting. A Gay version of a Minstrel show. I am not sure if it is social commentary or just insult humor.

Sacha Baron Cohen is not a "comic", he's an actor, he's been awarded Emmy nominations, Golden Globe nominations, Oscar nominations, and BAFTA nominations, and his film generated 261 million worldwide sales and was driven solely by his acting talent and character.

You'd do well to battle your own ignorance on the topic of who's a "number" whatever star.

Something is different with Conan's presentation. For one thing the theater is bigger and they seem to be have a problem with the sound system echoing across the TV. Not sure how they fix that. Also Conan sometimes waits too long between jokes. Not sure if he is waiting for the clapping to stop or is trying to stretch the material for some reason. I have noticed that Conan seems to be slowly tweaking each show, some have more jokes and some have more staged film clips.

Conan needs to find his stride and hit it before Jay gets back on the air this fall in order to be a ying and yang to Leno's show.

Cohen is all about social commentary. Most of the comments on here don't get it. It is not about Cohen's characters, it is about the reaction to his characters. Stand back and watch how people, especially middle-America ,reacts to these absurd characters. It exposes stereotypes, bigotry, racism, hatred, ignorance, etc. etc.

I have no doubt the Bruno, which is partcularly well timed, will show many of the real feelings Americans have toward foreigners, some one different, gays, etc.

Cohen is a genius in this sense, as he takes social commentary comedy to a whole new level. His slap-stick also takes things to a new level. Hard to do, to push boundries and present something fresh, given how much comedy has been beaten to death by the many many comics over the years.

Your insult was out of line. Becaue you don't understand SBC's performances doesn't make those who do armpits but it might make you uncultured. SBC is a perforamnce artist & they are always over the top & often misunderstood & ridiculed. The intention of a batter stepping up to the plate is to get a hit.

The intention of a man walking into a singles bar is to meet someone.

Just because you intend to do something doesn't automatically mean it's going to happen.

Cohen doesn't expose any hidden truths. It's no secret that a gay man at a rodeo will attract derision. Anyone with a brain knows that bigotry exists and how simple it is to find it. That's not satire. True satire is rooted in reality. It challenges it's targets to rethink beliefs. Cohen's shtick doesn't do this. Simply because the characters he plays are so extreme so unreal, that the targets, and the audience, find it difficult to believe exactly which side he's skewering. Is he mocking gays? Is he mocking people who hate gays? Is he just being an idiot who is strictly out for a laugh?

I know quite a few people who like Cohen, and believe me, none of them are commenting on the satirical nature of his comedy. For the record, what was the satire in him falling down on eminem?

I think you reading into too deeply. There is not social commentary about his antics. He simply wants to humiliate unsuspecting people. I kind of wish someone would turn it against him when he is with his wife and kids to see how he react. I am sure he nothing more than a hypocrite.

Stephen Colbert is actually hilarious. His face is a lot more sincere than this Sasha guy. Sasha Baron Cohen seemed full it. I don't think he is sincere in his humor. His humore mean spirited.

I for one, thought that segment was pretty fun...no reason to take it too seriously. I can't wait for the Bruno flick.

Also, I can not wrap my head around those who prefer Leno over Conan. Leno's overly-obvious, lowest common denominator humor was cringe-worthy. Conan is like a breath of fresh air at 11:30pm. Give the man a chance to get his bearings.

No, actually the person above you is right. For some reason, there is some perceived barrier between 11:30pm and 12:30am television. For some reason, you can do whatever you want at 12:30, but not at 11:30... Conan was greatly beloved, by critics and viewers in his old time slot. However, most of his viewers at 12:30 were young.

There are a lot more older viewers and people watching him for the first time now at 11:30. Conan needs time to figure out to best cater to both audiences. Like you said, he had his old show for 16 years, but he needs to adapt to a new audience now. If he waters down his wackiness too much, his younger viewers will say he's sold out. If he keeps his old 12:30 absurdist humor, older viewers will tune out.
