Judge To McCaskill: You Can't Fire Me -- I Quit
St. Louis Post Dispatch:
Looks like Missouri U.S. Sen. Claire McCaskill will have to wait for another chance to burnish her courtroom skills.
McCaskill, a former prosecutor in Kansas City, was tapped to lead the Senate investigation of imprisoned federal Judge Samuel Kent, currently in the care of the U.S. Bureau of Prisons after pleading guilty to sexually abusing two employees at the Houston courthouse where he presided.
But on Thursday, Senate officials who visited Kent at prison to serve him a summons instead got Kent's resignation letter. That means Kent voluntary gives up his lifetime appointment -- and $174,000 salary.
