Think Progress:

During an appearance on a local radio station in Phoenix, AZ this morning, a caller asked Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) when Republican leaders were going to emerge in Congress to "wake the American people up" to the "cap-and-tax" bill. "Why can't we get the House members and the Senate members to just walk out on what the Democrats are doing?" the caller asked. In response, McCain said that the GOP lawmakers -- particularly his House colleagues -- have to stay and fight, even though they are working under Speaker Nancy Pelosi's (D-CA) authoritarian rule.

LOL - When "The Hammer" ran things, that was when the House was "disciplined" and "empowered", right John?

Mcain has no conviction about anything, who cares or listens to what he has to say. This man is no hero he has played that faux role for years with really bein called on it. He never saved anyone life but his own. I wish someone would ask him if thoughout his military career, which was given to him by his father, if he ever saved a life.

I think McCain and his Republican extreme friends must have forgotten that the American people voted for more Democrat Rep. in the House than Republican and in this Country majority rules. Pelosi is the leader of the house but can not control the votes of individual members. She is however a very good leader. We won, get over it. I remember well how sad it was to look at the poor democrats try to have some say in the bills voted on but was always blocked by the Republican majority, what goes around comes around.

I am so glad Mccain didn't become the Prez. What an embarassment he would have been on the world stage.

At least Pelosi isn't handing out lobbist money on the floor of the house like Tom Delay did. All speakers are somewhat autocratic. Maybe there are some Johnson Administration people left who remember Sam Rayburn. Mr. Sam, as he was called, ruled with an iron fist and never forgot a friend or foe.

The caller and McCain're absolutely right.

And if you require more proof than their say-so, Pelosi's not known as "The Hammer" for no reason at all.

Macane was heard to mutter as he walked away-"Being President probably wouldn't have been fun, anyway."

Funny, I don't remember him disparaging the way the House was handled during the Delay-Hastert era when it really was under autocratic rule.

I dont' know why Pelosi gets such vehement defense from you guys, she sold you out all during the Bush years and didn't stand up against them once on Iraq or anything else.

Not that McCaid is right, he's just a cantankerous old codger

We love Pelosi and understands that she did not have the votes to stand up to the Bush Administration, we understood that majority rules and have always known how much the Repuplican party hates this country.

But there was a Democratic majority in the house for years.

It is all about the number of votes.

I think McCain may have confused Pelosi with the one-time republican majority whip Tom "The Hammer" Delay. Now there was a real autocrat.

Autocrat makes him sound legit. Delay is a thug.

He is obviously confusing strong effective leadership with "autocracy".

I am extremely grateful that we have such an adept leader in the House who can deliver the votes Obama needs to carry out his agenda for the American people.

Even if McCain were accurate in his assessment of Nancy Pelosi, I would still rather have her as a benevolent dictator than the tyrannical leadership of that reptilian scoundrel Newt.
