WASHINGTON — The House of Representatives paused for a moment of silence Friday to mark entertainer Michael Jackson's death.

Lawmakers briefly interrupted a debate on a global warming bill to stand in silence and honor the "King of Pop."

Rep. Diane Watson of California rose during the debate to suggest the House "pay tribute to the culture that he has left behind, his legacy."

Watson said the lawmakers send their condolences to Jackson's family, friends and his fans worldwide.

Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. of Illinois said the singer changed the world and he wants to "thank God for letting all of us live in his generation and in his era."

The 50-year-old musical superstar died Thursday after being stricken at his rented home in Los Angeles.

I would say this is unbelievable, but sadly, it's all too believable.

Nothing. just unnecessary. and our POTUS does Not need to put out a press release either. I would bet you anything he is sad about this as well as anyone else. but a press release. come on.

Here's a better idea: why don't we just vote out all the ones who authorized the war in Iraq?!

I'll vote for that.

Thanks. But at least we can comfort ourselves in the knowledge that health care reform doesn't stand a chance and that we will escalate the bloodshed in the Middle East. (Both issues that shrink in significance when measured against the tragic death of a pop star, of course.)

But lets not remember Farrah, or Ed, or David Carradine for that matter. Why does one celebrity get special treatment? Is it because the house is filled with Pedos?

How about because one influenced the ENTIRE world and the others didn't?

They're gone, its sad, get over it. They didn't do anything for you, their estates will not do anything for you. Who the heck cares that these people are dead? My business has gone down the drain. Haven't had a paycheck for 3 weeks. Can't get a straight answer out of Suntrust about the status of my mortgage modification. Have been sending out hundreds of resumes for the past 2 months.

Get over the celebrity dying crap and back to real issues.

Sorry to hear about what you're going through, but there are many people who have it A LOT harder than you and have been for years, grit it and bear with it, but guess what? They still mourn the loss of people they cared about.

This recession is nothing new to Blacks or Hispanics, we're used to struggling. Whites on the other hand, not so much, at least not as often and certainly haven't had their whole communities/entire race poor at one point, we've honed our skills and know how to make do, so now I guess you have to...

You don't get it. Did Farrah or Ed or David changed a kids life in isolated country like Albania or North Korea or a far away town nobody knows in Africa? Farrah, Ed, and David will be remembered, but Michael is known internationally around the world. There were people in isolated countries that had a Michael record when it was forbidden to have a record, but Michael Jackson was acceptable. They don't know Farrah, Ed or David. We know them, and we will remember them like Michael.

No, you don't get it. Michael Jackson is no more important then any other celebrity in the world. He was just that, an entertainer. Congress has better things to do then making empty motions to appease the thousands of retarded masses who think that Michael was the least bit important when in reality he wasn't that good at anything he did. Michael Jackson being listened to in isolated countries doesn't mean a thing, we send those countries our unwanted scraps, they probably listened to his music for the same reason the wear a Patriots Super Bowl XLII Championship shirts... because they were given to them.

Here's a question. If Michael Jackson was so loved and so popular, why did he die alone?

He's not just a celebrity. He was a "WORLD ICON". Plan and simple.

The fans of Farrah, Ed, and David are expressing their grief and I'm sorry for their passing but MJ was an international figure. People all over the world are shocked and saddened by his death.
There are a lot of stars and public personalities but then there are those like Elvis, John Lennon, Sinatra, etc who get more attention due to their contributions and persona. That is where you place Michael Jackson.
As for your last sentence, in sane and base less.

A very touching, classy gesture. Tomorrow maybe they can pause and remember health care reform.
