Frank Lombard, Duke Univ. Official, Charged In Child Sex Case

(AP) WASHINGTON - A Duke University official has been arrested and charged with offering his adopted 5-year-old son for sex.

Frank Lombard, the school's associate director of the Center for Health Policy, was arrested after an Internet sting, according to the FBI's Washington field office and the city's police department.

According to an affidavit by District of Columbia Police Det. Timothy Palchak, an unnamed informant facing charges in his own child sex case led authorities to Lombard.

Authorities said that Lombard tried to persuade a person -- who he did not know was a police officer -- to travel to North Carolina to have sex with Lombard's child.

The detective's affidavit charges Lombard identified himself online as "perv dad for fun," and says that in an online chat with the detective, Lombard said he had sexually molested his son, whom he adopted as an infant.

The court papers say Lombard also invited the undercover detective to North Carolina to have sex with the young boy, and even suggested which hotel he should use.

Lombard was charged in federal court in Washington with attempting to induce someone to cross state lines to engage in sex with a child. If convicted, he could face a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison.

Lombard's lawyer did not immediately return a call seeking comment.

Michael Schoenfeld, vice president for public affairs at Duke, said Lombard has been employed with Duke University since 1999. He is now on unpaid administrative leave.

"Duke is cooperating with the investigation," Schoenfeld said. He said the university was notified of the incident after Lombard was arrested.

Authorities executed a search warrant Wednesday evening at Lombard's home, according to court documents. The papers show investigators seized two webcams, five computers and a sex toy, among other items.

Are you people serious here? This man offered his 5-year old son to the highest bidder nad admitted to mole sting the child himself. But these comments are full of horrible attempts at jokes and Michael Jackson references. Where has our morality gone? The world stopped for Jackson's death (a sad moment indeed) but barely pauses to notice an innocent child being tossed into evil's company and those that do take a second look do so just to make a sick joke.

Basically. . . As a native of Durham, I found it rather sickening as to how those boys were treated like saints -- even after it has been reported that one of them have had a serious record before even being enrolled.

As of now, I am in PA, but it will be interesting to see whether the local new(s) station (Channel 1.1) will even bother to report on this. Even if they do, the may just run it for five seconds and then move on.

If this had been the other way around with the faculty member being associated with an HBCU like NCCU (where the girl was enrolled), they would probably milk this story for all that it is worth.

Whose fault is it that this little child is put in a position where an animal would be the adoptive parent? This type of thing is going on with these black children. Once we fix that, then we can worry about the animals who are adopting these children for sex and the news outlets that won't run the story.

This man is an outrage and thankfully has been caught. As the many posts here say he should ,if all of this is true, go to jail for a very, very long time. But I am puzzled by the pushback when anyone talks about MJ's inappropriate behavior with children. When my 2 sons were adolescents, they were slight kids, blond and blue eyed, very young looking, and told me, years after the fact, that they were always targets for "chickenha­wks."
