I Like ItI Don’t Like It

On Friday, House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio) delayed a vote on the American Clean Energy and Security Act with a nearly hour-long speech. He knew the Republicans didn't have enough votes to defeat the bill. In an interview with The Hill he explained himself: "Hey, people deserve to know what's in this pile of shit."

Here's a taste of Boehner's Friday afternoon speech:

In the past, Boehner has suggested that carbon dioxide is not dangerous because cows fart a lot.

So he's comparing himself to the Clean Air Act?

If anyone knows about a pile of sh*t, it would be Boehner.

I think there's no way to know if this bill will do all the good things the president says it will or all the bad things boehner predicts. But my opinion is that we've been slaves to the oil/gas for a very long time now and they've done nothing to free us from foreign oil. Big industry does not have OUR best interests at heart, but THEIRS.

My opinion now is ... too late. The bill is due. You've proven you won't be responsible and find ways to conserve a non-renewable (in our lifetimes) energy source (oil) or produce cars that use less of your product so time is up.

What's more, boehner yammers about how many jobs will be lost and throws numbers out there. There's no way for us to know if he's got verifiable data he's using to arrive at that number ... the same as we have no way to know Obama's right in his assertion that jobs will be created.

What does make sense is that if a guy is needed to pump oil out of the ground, another guy will be needed to put up solar panels. If we need a guy to build a gas-guzzler, we need a guy to build a gas-sipper.

We'll still be building and consuming -- just different stuff at different rates.

One last point nuke power is a cleaner source of energy until you have to do something with the waste it creates.

That is the problem. Industries want to do the same thing the same old way which has been destroying our planet. Why hasn't the steel company in his district to be innovated in producing steel? Because it's easier to do things the same old way, rack in the big bucks and let our grandchildren worry about the problems prolonged.

The comments on this board are just as bad as a right-wing blog. Our economy is bleeding now, and to push through this kind of legislation in a single bill is frightening.

He makes legitimate points- will we see the loss of 2.5 Million jobs each year? If that's so, then we need to consider his points. What about the bureaucracy? Isn't the reason the EPA hasn't been as effective as it could be is because of the hurdles of bureaucracy?

There is a reason this is a two party system- do we want to make the same stupid mistakes the Republicans made during the Bush years?

As gratifying as it is to eviscerate the GOP, I think we need to listen to their point of view on issues. They just may have a good point.

How can you honestly believe anything John Bonehead says. really. I am serious.
Not eviscerating anybody. Just listen to yourself. seriously. this planet cannot continue to take more and more carbon pollution into the water, atmosphere etc.

Who cares what he thinks. And the word 'thinks' is maybe giving him too much credit.

I can't decide what I like best about John Boehner. Is it his impeccable, preternaturally brown hair? The healthy glow of his perma-bronzer skin tone? Or his finely sculpted nose, bearing nary a hint of the plastic surgeon's knife, pointing the way forward towards an honest, transparent government of the people, by the people, and for the people...
