CNN:

Iran continues to "interfere" in Iraq, including training insurgents and paying surrogates, the U.S. commander in Iraq told CNN on
Sunday.

But Army Gen. Ray Odierno said his mission is limited to providing security within Iraq, no matter the provocation from Iran or elsewhere.

I'm sure that Iran complains that the US is interfering in Iraq. A peaceful country until we invaded.

re."[Iraq] A peaceful country until we invaded."
A runner up for ignorant post of the month, surely.
Tell this to Kurds, Shiite, Kuwaitis, Iranians, Saudis and untold millions tortured in secret prisons of your hero Saddam.

General, you say that Iran continues to interfere into Iraq affairs. Are we not complicit in the same type of behavior in Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan and other countries? We continue to issue rehashed proclamations and verbiage. We have heard this rhetoric over and over since the invasion. Where is the evidence of these claims? Where is the evidence of the previous claims we have made? You mentioned that they are training insurgents and paying surrogates. This sounds so familiar. This was sounded years ago wasn’t it? At this juncture, are we talking about Iran or ourselves? When will we allow the Iraqi government and its people to address this matter without our involvement?

IRAN, US AND ISRAEL ARE ALL USING SUBTERFUGE AND IT IS INEVITABLE BUT SLOW CHANGE.

All countries are settling down to using diplomacy and any other form of influence to the ultimate goal of settling down the Middle East. The US is going to come out ahead and most of the military and civilian casualties are already past. Iran is going to get nuclear capability but will have no use for it except to drive the population into more poverty. Israel is going to take up some more land but the overall effect is to further lose its reputation and respect from the whole world and the US public. Islam, to the extent that it is used to control governments, is having the same effect as communism and will take a generation or more to overcome. All these are general eventualities.

The worst thing that Americans can do is to let the Republicans back in power so they increase hostile relations with this part of the world that has to go through a process similar to China's and Russia's.

The way to make political predictions is to think of the most likely futures, based on past behavior and experiences and to qualify "exceptions to the rule" due to unpredictable events and to also qualify with possible known risks. But the US is not really at risk in general, except through electing bad leaders who add to possible risks and create more unpredictable outcomes.

So according to Gen. Ray Odierno, the Iraqi troops are ready to be independent from US troops.
Then why the recent violence in Sadr City?

Dear General Meathead,
The US continues to "interfere" in Iran and Iraq.

General, I would say that it is far more troubling that the USA continues to interfere with Iraq, at least Iran is a contiguous neighbor and should be concerned with what is going on along their borders, but we Americans live thousands of miles from Iraq and never should have "Interfered" with the politics of a sovereign nation, no less invade an Arab country that had nothing whatsoever to do with 911.

Why do you so often see the US flag back to front so often on US troops ? - is it a tradition/superstition thing ?

The general is just making excuses for failing to secure Iraq. Ever since the US stopped paying death squads and insurgents, violence has returned...

Sounds like Mr. Obama needs to shake up his generals again before they launch him into a war with Iran. Retreat!

Since we have to move out of the cities, why don't we move all of our people to the Iran border and shake them up a bit?

They're already shaken up. We have had troops on 3 sides of Iran for over 10 years now.

Any even slight thought of attacking Iran to try and contain it or for regime change must encompass the inevitable fallout vis-a-vis Russia, China, Pakistan, India, Venezuela, Afghanistan, and the majority of the SCO/BRIC and non-alligned states. It would eseentially be a war with Eurasia, South Asia and the global southern hemisphere, and those launching it would be shooting themselves in the feet.

Best for Washington and London to change their tact entirely, and start treating Iran like the treat India. There is too much at stake, and all sides know this.

Should't Iran start treating Iranians like human beings? to begin with?

You are worried about an Anglo-American war against "Eurasia ...." ! While Shirin Ebadi the Iranian Nobel Peace prize winner and Humanrights activist asked the world to totally isolate Iran with an international political boycott!

Your concerns for human rights are very selective.

Shouldn't the US stop supporting Egypt, which rigs elections and tortures and kills political opponents? Or Israel, which has turned Gaza into a concentration camp? Or Saudi Arabia and Kuwait, which aren't exactly democracies.

And we have such a great record of encouraging democracy. Like when we engineered the coup in Chile to oust and kill their elected president. Nice work, America! Or arranged the "removal" of Diem in Vietnam. Or had the elected president of Iran removed and replaced with the Shah. The list is practically endless.

we should have been concerned with Iran when we defeated their greatest enemy, and occupied his country.

Little guy with the big mouth from Iran goes to Iraq; leaders roll out the red carpet and welcome him like brother; American bust into Iraq wonder why they were not welcomed and we are asked to leave ASAP. So GTFO!
