Beyonce's Bridalwear: Fierce Performance At The BET Awards (PHOTOS, VIDEO)

Beyonce sizzled at the BET Awards Sunday night, where she sang a medley of songs including 'Ave Maria' and took home awards for Best Female R&B Artist and Best Video (for 'Single Ladies').

Janet Jackson also made a surprise appearance to speak about her brother and Joe Jackson attended the ceremony.

Already expressed my POV about he show on BET's site. Beyonce's outfit was a throwback to an old black and white movie, "Pal Joey" with Kim Novak, so the "idea" wasn't even original. Both the song and the bizarre costume were inappropriate for the awards and the tribute to Michael Jackson this programming was purportedly supposed to represent. We just have got to do better....

My daughters went to Beyonce's show in DC last week. The had mentioned to me that the wedding dress /Ave Maria piece was weird. My youngest is a classically trained soprano. She sings "Ave Maria" at weddings all the time. She thought Beyonce's outfit was disrespectful and my daughter LOVES Beyonce'. B is a very hard working, talented woman. However, she needs to back away from the classics and stay in her lane.

As for the rest of the show, my expectations weren't high anyway, so it was entertaining enough. I thought that Maxwell, NeYo and Tyrese were in excellent form.

Joe Jackson doubled sucked, the only saving grace was Janet., Janet appeared to me, to disaprove of the program also. Dam, BET was so screwed up. Sunday night programming for me this week was filled with several interesting choices (TVONE-"Unsung", HBO-"True Blood" and the premiere of "Hung" its new series and BET Awards). BET proved to be the most disappointing. In recent years, BET has upped the production quality of its awards show but this year was definitely a step backward.

In their haste to honor Michael, the hurried choices were near disastrous in the end. It was hard to understand what Beyonce's tribute meant, especially performing "Ave Maria" and sampling Sarah McLachlan's "Angel" (which was probably unfamiliar to most of the audience). Jamie Foxx stumbled and then just became downright embarrassing.

But it was Joe Jackson. The patriarchal head of The Jackson Family was on another planet. In some ways, Joe is as much responsible for Michael's greatness (by driving he and his brothers relentlessly) to his eventual downfall (years of mental and physical abuse). So here was this odd egg, and I am being kind, even forgetting that his son, his child had died and instead referred to him as "the great entertainer" NOT his child. Pathetic....enough to really piss you off were it not for the fact that it made such fascinating television.

TVONE actually showed promise with yet another solid episode of their "Unsung", for like of a better description, an urban version of VH1's "Behind the Music". BET captured Michael's essence best with their 15 sec bumper saluting him.......that may all that needed to be said.

No one should be singing Ave Maria (Hail Mary - referenced to the Mother of Jesus) with hardly anything on. It was definitely the WRONG attire for reverence of this sacred song. She has a lot to understand about respect for the person regarded (in many religious doctrines) as a person born of divine intervention and preserved from original sin. This is in line with the cover of Rolling Stones of Kanye West as Jesus Christ adorned with the crown of thorns. Some things - you just don't mess with! Wise up people.

I totally agree. It was disrespectful. I was like what? She's half naked Hailing the mother of Jesus. Really? Not to mention that she sounded horrible to boot! Then she threw in Sarah McLaughlin's song in the midst, and a change to a wedding/fairy dress. What the Hell Beyoncé? What the hell?

I am happy I did not see the show as I have read so many comments about how tacky and disappointing it was. According to the comments, it was not a world class show at all. That is a pity. I hope the major networks show BET how a worthy honor and tribute to an important figure should be done. With class!

Several years ago I stopped watching award shows and beauty contests. However, when I heard that BET was putting together a tribute to Michael Jackson on their award show I decided to watch. I did not watch the entire broadcast, but it was very disappoint­ing....and sometimes tacky. They should not have changed their original show to attempt this distastrous tribute to Michael Jackson. Michael Jackson was an ultimate perfectionist as an entertainer, but BET was not even close to perfectionist with this so-called tributed.

I did not like the BET awards that much. MJ was a perfectionist, He always work with the best. BET should produced spectacular award show, to dedicate MJ. maybe they were been cheap !!!
