Tomorrow is the deadline for U.S. troops to withdraw from Iraq, a date Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki is calling a "great victory." But in a new interview with Washington Times radio, Vice President Cheney was still pushing the U.S. to stay in Iraq, saying that withdrawal would "waste" the sacrifice of U.S. troops:

Obama is getting us out of Iraq - a War the GOP gave us.

Obama has nothing to do with the SOFA agreement. He's simply following Bush's withdrawal timetable a little ahead of schedule. Regardless if Iraq returns to presurge chaos under Obama's watch he knows that he will be blamed for it and rightly so as he is projecting an image of weakness, uncertainty and confusion in the world that is emboldening our enemies and discouraging our friends. A topsy turvy Mickey Mouse foreign policy that is slowly leading the Middle East into turmoil.

I don't get it. Does Cheney think we should annex Iraq? Otherwise, what is his reasoning for remaining? When will it be okay for us to withdraw? When he says so?

I don't think the Bush cabal ever had any intention of leaving Iraq.

OF course not, they wanted to rake in trillions of dollars more building structures that have no function, no plumbing, no electricity, nothing - just waste and no bid contracts.

All those nobid contracts should be investigated and Halliburton made to pay back.

The censorship is often random, but this is not the type of story where they would bother to actually manipulate the discussion on a deep level (deeper than "civilized" Cheney-bashing and fabricated outrage (just like Fox)).

If the Bush administration were tried for war crimes using the same standards as used in the Nuernberg War Crimes tribunal a lot of the members of the Bush administration would be convicted of war crimes and several of them would be hanged. This almost certainly includes Cheney and Rumsfeld.

Remember when Rummy claimed to have trained 300,000 Iraq troops ? That was back when the American public was still gullible about Iraq and bought every 'success' story.

Remember when Rummy and others wer making these kinds of stupid predictions to get the public behind the war:

* Feb. 7, 2003--Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, to U.S. troops in Aviano, Italy: "It is unknowable how long that conflict will last. It could last six days, six weeks. I doubt six months."

* March 4, 2003--Air Force Gen. Richard Myers, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, at a breakfast with reporters: "What you'd like to do is have it be a short, short conflict. . . . Iraq is much weaker than they were back in the '90s," when its forces were routed from Kuwait.

And now onto 6 years and they are whining about a pullback from combat. The troops are still there, they are just being removed from combat and located in what are sure to become, because they were built just like the Israeli settlements, permanent bases inside the country, where our troops are more than likely to still be there when most of are dead and gone. We're still in Germany and Italy and how long has it been since WWII ended??? Vietnam and China seems to be about the only places in the world where we dont' have a military presence.

What a tremendous waste of precious lives and treasure.

well i think that Cheney and the likes should have a historical lesson about iraq that about 5000 years the great empires and countries have fallen down after every invation that those countries have done

One of the objective of the Bush administration's unprovoked war of agression against Iraq was to obtain permanent bases there. That was one of the things the troops were making their sacrifices for, although they were not informed of this. Now it isn't going to happen. The failure of the U.S. to keep permanent bases there is a major defeat for Cheney and the Neocons. So the sacrifices of the troops in attempting to achieve this goal for the Neocons will indeed be wasted. But this was an unjust goal from the beginning and deserved to fail. The sacrifice of the troops made for this false objective is a great tragedy.

Capt.Video : Well said.

( The Neocons were also unsuccessful in obtaining the Iraqi oil. )

( ...And forcing Democracy upon them... )

Incompetence. That's their " Legacy ".
