he experts at the MIT Joint Program on the Science & Policy of Global Change have long been advocates of cap-and-trade as an appropriate policy instrument to drive a reduction in national emissions. They also provide valuable insight into the economic impacts of such an instrument through the economic modelling tools they have at their disposal.

he move to change legislative language from "Global Warming" to "Climate Change" confirms Congress's acknowledgement that the planet is now cooling and that the decline in solar activity is responsible for the "Global Cooling" we are now feeling.

The opposite is true. Increase in global mean temperature as a result of human carbon dioxide pollution, mainly from industry and transportation, is proven.

http://www.mcclatchydc.com/251/story/57966.html

Changing the nomenclature from "global warming" to "climate change" was a scientific decision, not a political one, and it was based on the fact that the carbon dioxide greenhouse effect does much more than increase global mean temperature. The change may not correctly be interpreted to suggest that we have any doubt that global warming is one of those effects nor that the warming effect is minor. But scientists know that toxic oceans http://www.wired.com/wiredscience/2009/01/futureoceans/comment-page-3//], increasing hurricane severity http://www.nrdc.org/globalWarming/f101.asp#44], and reduced agricultural output http://www.sciencemag.org/cgi/content/summary/323/5911/193?rss=11] are also important, and that those also are directly caused by carbon dioxide pollution. That is why scientists decided "climate change" is a more accurate, more complete description for the harmful effects of radiative forcing by carbon dioxide pollution.

Interesting word choice. I never thought of classifying the money Exxon pays you to 'blog lies about global warming as "GRANTS." More like "wages," "salaries" or "bribes."

Ah, now I see why you chose to call them "grants."

this is not a GOP versus DEM thing. We need to see above and beyond and while we fight they are both laughing all the way to the bank and why, because it means more money for them and less for us. What is therre to celebrate for us? Both parties are corrupt to the very core.

dont worry by their own admission this gem of a bill will reduce so called green house gasses by 2 tenths of 1 % by the year 2110. so how does cap and tax sound now? mmmm yummy

What idiocy this climate bill is, in essence it means more taxes for the middle class. Australia and
New Zealand and others already had abandoned their Carbon Tax Bill. As usual, we are always behind the times. Charging the farmers for their cows emitting gas is insane indeed. Any vulcano
or geyser brings more damage than we humans can. Besides our C02 levels are just fine compared to the 1990s. Now population explosion needs to be addressed, that would make sense.

Really what is it that makes folks not want to progress. Theu had 8 years to do what they wanted with this country and now they are throwing up road blocks all over the place to keep the country from moving ahead. I have heard everything from $175/month person to $175/year/ household to $3100 per year per household. When the truth is some where around $175/year per household if the models work.

That is the only way they get elected

They are only as good as their constituents

8 years of 'no child left behind' - the USA -does not even rank within the top 25 for education in the world.

Have you ever watched some of their hearings - they are not very bright when compared to the experts?

C-span shows the big ones all the time!

It is amazing.

Now- Tom Price from Georgia " is comparing healthcare reform to the ‘low income mortgage’ 'Fannie and Freddie' mantra.

Once again "Fannie & Freddie nothing to do with Credit Default Swaps and Derivatives-

We all have been educated and now know not to be the cause of our country’s financial meltdown.

Yet this congressman continues this outright lie. Just like the WMD – WMD- WMD BS!

Does this congressman know what he is talking about? This is who we want to define our new healthcare reform- for bi-partisan’s sake?

Sad thing is, he is one of many.

What % of congress- who actually understands the global issues and is dictating our policies?

You might want to research how photosynthesis works! Plants actually take in C02 and emit oxygen. That's why they are so important to the earth.

Honestly, just get informed and stop making things up!

"Cimate Expert: GOP Distorted My Findings On Cap-And-Trade Cost"

Gee Mr Climate Expert, maybe you can take solice in the fact that the EPA squelched a report with findings that went against the global warming beliefs.

Ha HA hA HA!!!

This was supposed to be the most transparent administration ever. Yet as the House of Representatives prepared to vote on the Waxman-Markey bill, the largest tax increase in U.S. history on 100% of Americans, an attempt was made to suppress a study shredding supporters' arguments.

On Friday, the day of the vote, the Competitive Enterprise Institute said it was releasing "an internal study on climate science which was suppressed by the Environmental Protection Agency."

In the release, the institute's Richard Morrison said "internal EPA e-mail messages, released by CEI earlier in the week, indicate that the report was kept under wraps and its author silenced because of pressure to support the administration's agenda of regulating carbon dioxide."

Reading the report, available on the CEI Web site, we find this "endangerment analysis" contains such interesting items as: "Given the downward trend in temperatures since 1998 (which some think will continue until at least 2030), there is no particular reason to rush into decisions based on a scientific hypothesis that does not appear to explain most of the available data."

In April, President Obama declared that "the days of science taking a back seat to ideology are over." Apparently not, for as he spoke those very words his administration was suppressing science to advance a very pernicious ideology.

The CBO estimates that the ENTIRE economic impact of the Waxman-Markey bill will be $175/per family per year.

"The Competitive Enterprise Institute is a public interest group dedicated to free enterprise and limited government. "

CEI is also a firm opponent of EFCA.

The report in question basis it's conclusion by relying on the research and publication of "anti-global warming" deniers.

The portion of the report supposedly "suppressed" consisted of scientific opinions offered by a man whose degree is in Economics, with a minor in Physics. He has no scientific training in the areas on which he was commenting and has conducted no peer-reviewed research to back up his claims. Just because you get your paycheck from the EPA does not automatically make you qualified to be included in every report. It's called "responsible editing", not suppression.

Probably the report was filled with false "science" as had been the norm of the Bush/Cheney EPA over the previous eight years.
