I Like ItI Don’t Like It

Michelle Obama was at the top of her fashion game on Monday, as she paid a visit to a visit to Unity Health Care's Upper Cardozo Center and later in the day appeared at an LGBT Pride Month event with President Obama.

She belted a chic white jacket with a wide silver Givenchy belt (which marked a departure from her usual American designers), wore her hair tucked flirtatiously behind one ear, and sported a set of bracelets that include some tasseled dangling thing.

See photos below.

I just think the outfit makes her look heavy. She looks like she is gaining a little weight lately. Love the hair, make-up and jewelry.

I come to this site occasionally to browse and read what I (considered) to be intelligent conversation, which most of the time I (feel) I do find, but not today. I have to ask why some of you feel it is necessary that OUR First Lady conform to what the fashion world deems is "high" fashion? Mrs. Obama, just as MOST of you do, has her own sense of what is right for her....Sometimes she hits the mark, sometime she doesn't, in either scenario, why do (SOME) of you feel that it is right to tear her down. She, just as Nancy Reagan, Jackie Kennedy and Laura were, is human, and being human, doomed to make mistakes. Michelle does not create or form policy, Barack does....I could care less if she wears Gucci today and basic Walmart tomorrow..whatever she wears will always be of more concern to some of you, because it is easier for people to worry about something as mudane as a "belt" rather than worry about whether the child next door is hungry, uneducated or being beaten....so goes our culture..Michelle's looks are HER business, just as my personal look is mine and the naysayers looks are theirs...what kind of society are we becoming when we care more about the color and shape of her dress instead of just being proud of her for being one HeII of a woman..Some people are strne, real strange...Happy 4th to all.

What a load of self righteous, condescending, donkey dust.

On your way.

Whether this is on the runway or in the fashion magazines, I like the jacket, the bracelets and MO's beautiful graceful face.

Others may rightfully disagreed but why bother with the bitterness and the lies about the great FLOTUS. Though I did not vote for Bush, I would never criticize Laura's dress and taste. She was the FLOTUS then and deserved respect, decency, and truth.

The problem here, as some have already noted, is that there is a specific group of bitter commenters who start out with not liking and taking it further in disrespecting and promoting lies. And, I am probably preaching to the choir.

btw...good work ncy,

I wish those saying this is on the runway and in the fashion magazines could provide one link to one picture. There are none because no one is wearing a big wide belt over a short jacket right under the b00bs...well, except for MO.

Maybe she will start a trend. I don't care for wide belts worn high, not flattering on most figures. cheryl mikela

You asked for pictures of belts worn high. Now you're asking for pictures of belts worn high over short jackets.

What next? You'll be asking for pictures of Givenchy belts worn high over short tan jackets by First Ladies speaking at the Unity Health Center?

t iessa, t iessa, t iessa, blinded by bitterness and a determination to demolish anything that might be worthy and attached to MO, you missed the point...who cares if it is on the runways or magazines. I do not need that validation nor does Mrs. O. Either you like it or you don't....it does not have to be so personal and ugly. You are attempting to elevate your opinion as something objective and based on a neutral standard. It is not. You do not like MO, that is clear....everyone gets it. Your dislike is something you own and not based on any objective standard or evidence. You will not convince anyone otherwise no matter how many times you tell us.

Some people miss the point because they are so blinded by bitterness and dislike for MO. I do not need the runways or magazines to validate what I like or do not like nor does MO. Pointing to these sources or lack of will not convince anyone that a position is superior to others.

I think I just got...some people cannot stand that MO is in a superior position...has more influence and can reach out to so many people....and these people will say (some small petty shred of whatever) and perhaps do anything to diminish her and her husband. So sad for such empty hearts.

None of these styles apply to Michelle's. There are empire lines and cummerbunds in your line-up.

She's constantly doing this belt under the bra thing no matter what she wears -- no matter what dress or outfit and no matter what belt.

It's difficult to take her style seriously. Many posters have agreed. And by doing that they are not being negative.

It's a common trend Michelle isn't 'doing it wrong'. Not everyone likes it--not a big deal.

I keep reading about the belt..to me the problem is the jacket..It looks like she grabbed one of the chef's jackets from the White House kitchen and cut the sleeves and bottom off..I am sure this is a high end designer thing, that cost a lot..but it probably was meant to be worn sans belt.. What will it take to get Flotus to hire a stylist? When we think of a Flotus the first thought should not be about her clothes...too much focus on them belittles her importance..She has worked hard all her life, and has wonderful achievements, it is probably hard for her to admit she can't do everything herself..but this one time, a little help would go a long way.

- + jozinia says:

If an Anglo politician's wife had done so [worn $540 sneakers to volunteer] you'd be all over it with
outrage flying.

Cindy McCain doing charity work in India.
Laura Bush doing charity work in Africa.
Princess Di holding aids babies in Africa.

All dressed in expensive designer clothing, the cost was never published because nobody cared . . . until the First Lady was black.

NONE of these women wore expensive clothes while doing that work. NONE of them. They would have been laughed at had they done that. Justifiably laughed at.

Facts are facts in the outside world. Not just in your head.

So you're saying they bought a special low-budget wardrobe to wear when they volunteered?

Too bad they didn't save that money and give it to the poor instead of using it to pretend to be poor.

Sorry to punch holes in your complaints, for Michelle will be wearing bigger clothes soon, because she's pregnant. Right now she is hiding her stomach with big shirts with belts. Soon all will be reveal!

Sorry to punch holes in your story but she has been showing this degree of "intermittent pregnacy" for about 5 months now. Each time she has been asked about it, she has denied it, and the last few times she got very snippy about it, too.

In addition, she is in her 40s, which is a time when most women have less chances of getting pregnant. She had a lot of trouble conceiving the girls, so it would, indeed, be a pleasant surprise for all if she was pregnant. But I think it's not likely.

Im aware of the laws of biology, and I had no idea she had probs with the girls.

Im just spouting off as a hopeless political romantic........

And I disagree about the fashion criticisms, Michelle is not a model but a professional women married to the most powerful man in the world.

Of course she puts on whats showing at the runway, designers are dying for the most famous couple in the world to wear their stuff.
