New York City is known for its architecture, but with great successes come great failures. For every Statue of Liberty of Chrysler Building, there is a Madison Square Garden sticking out like a sore thumb. The City is attempting to rectify some of its mistakes, sometimes with innovative approaches such as re-appropriating elevated train tracks downtown into High Line Park. There's a fine line between eyesore and landmark, so here are some of the buildings that New Yorkers have been grappling to categorize for decades.

Madison Square Garden was built over Pennsylvania Station, taking the place of a much-loved Beaux-Arts building that was demolished in 1964 (an action New York Times architecture critic Nicolai Ouroussoff called "one of the greatest crimes in American architectural history.") R.E. McKee of Texas designed the Garden, which stands at 7th Avenue and 33rd Street.

Let's see: We have showdown in our State Senate -- we have a wlll-she-won't-she primary challenger -- not to mention three others who have yet to surface in these pages -- and HP give us this?

How come you don't have this kind of vapid stuff on your Chicago page? Do you think New Yorkers are only about eating out and buildings?
