Sanford Women: Article Alludes To Multiple Affairs (UPDATED)

UPDATE 6/30: South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford has admitted that he 'crossed lines' with women other than mistress, but never had sex with them. From the AP:

The governor says he "never crossed the ultimate line" with anyone but Maria Belen Chapur, the Argentine at the center of a scandal that has derailed Sanford's once-promising political career.

During an emotional interview at his Statehouse office with The Associated Press on Tuesday, Sanford said Chapur is his soul mate but he's trying to fall back in love with his wife.

He says that during the other encounters he "let his guard down" with some physical contact but "didn't cross the sex line." He wouldn't go into detail.

Sanford said the casual encounters happened outside the U.S. while he was married but before he met Chapur.

Maria Chapur has admitted to being South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford's mistress. But is she the only one?

Libby Spencer, a blogger at the Detroit News, points out that Sunday's article in The State describing how the affair blew up alluded to multiple affairs.

A reporter called a Sanford staffer, saying the paper had e-mails that outlined an affair between the governor and Maria. Unless Sanford would address the issue privately, The State would have no choice but to ask him -- with TV crews filming -- if he knew Maria at his press conference that afternoon.

The names of two other women tumbled into the newsroom. [...]

And more names of women were coming in over the transom. The total was at three and counting.

"Women?!" [Former Sanford Chief of Staff Tom] Davis responded, sounding incredulous. "Women?!"

The article does not elaborate on the other women.

It only takes once to betray your wife. The real crime is walking away from the state of South Carolina leaving it adrift in case of emergency. That is deriliction of duty, pure and simple. Then, there is the small matter of the state money he spent. I find it incredible that there is so little said about this. I guess if you are a republican, you just beat your chest, say you're sorry and all is forgiven.

His wife is not going to forgive him.

That email should be used as a case study in psychology classes of an extremely narcissistic personality. Me, me, me, the whole way through. Until God opens that next door as he states will happen (emphasis on the word next) he should take that easy route he describes out stage door left....

I read his email "apology". Heh. Looked to me like it was a declaration that he was just going to be strong and "grow" through everyone's approbation. Every little sin that don't land him in hell just makes him more holy, doesn't it?

Good point. Mark Sanford would never put up with what Mark Sanford did. In fact, Mark Sanford would not hold up under Mark Sanford's cross-examination at an impeachment hearing.

Everybody is!-except his 'friends' who do not have his or his family's best interests at heart. His apology email to SC he sent out tonight is just bizarre. If this email doesn't force the issue, I don't know what will.

It's about his character ... which has been identified as lacking, and, ... his ability to do what he was elected to do and that is represent the people of his state. Evidence indicates he assigns more importance to his personal life than he does to his own family and the state of South Carolina. I don't care what the other politicians think. I would like to hear what the people of South Carolina think.
