I Like ItI Don’t Like It

In its latest ad campaign, Air New Zealand has given new meaning to the overused business cliche "transparency." The struggling Kiwi airliner has decided to emphasize that, unlike its competitors, it has nothing to hide. Well, literally...

In the below video, extremely fit Air New Zealand employees draw raised eyebrows from travelers as they appear in body paint made to look like uniforms.

Starting Monday, the New York Times reports, Air New Zealand passengers will begin seeing similar clips in their pre-flight safety videos.

"extremely fit Air New Zealand employees"? It might come as a shock to the average American, but the folks in the body paint aren't "extremely" fit, though they are in good shape. Wander on down to NZ some day, or to Europe, for a comparison of our own standard of fitness.

Wait. Air New Zealand is struggling??? I've flown to Auckland from LA twice in the past four months, and my flights have been almost SRO. They're price competitive, the food's good as airline food goes, and the only significant delay I've experienced was due to USAF activity around LAX the other day.

BTW I'm a bloody Yank, not a Kiwi plant.

I wish the airlines could just treat their employees like professionals instead of tools.

I'm not a prude, but this is taking it too far. I'd like to see a bit more dignity along with fun in the ads and the way the airlines treat their people.

Can you imagine what the real flight attendants, pilots, baggage handlers, and so forth feel about being used like this, and the grief they'll get from bozo passengers?

This reminds me of another incident of fellow Kiwis in body paint. It was at this years Cuba Street Carnival...at first we just thought she was very very cold!

Why do SOME of your New Zealanders and other non-Americans have to diss America to make your own country sound better. Are you people THAT insecure?

America is a very diverse country.

One thing to bear in mind is that Australia and NZ have a long history of 'taking the piss' out of each other. We also tend to extend this to other nations as well, such as the recent ribbing of the French by us Kiwis. It isn't exactly a sign of insecurity, just the way we do things.

....kinda like America's gun point diplomacy.

(I kid, I kid!)

It gets better.... they're showing safety videos on domestic flights with the crew 'dressed' the same. Check it out on their official site: http://www.nothingtohide.co.nz/

Ahh, good times.

Very cute! The passengers' expressions make the commerical. The painting is very good, except for the last scene. I think they intentionally reduced the fidelity of painting to get their point across on the last scene.

If you hadn't told me I'd never have known they were painted. Good job to the painters. I had to watch it twice to understand what was going on. Not quite "naked" other than two guys butts.

TOTALLY love Bret and Jermaine. Those who don't know them, look for Hiphopopotamus vs. Rhymenoceros on Youtube...

Air New Zealand probably can't afford them any more!
One of the baggage handlers is the CEO of Air NZ Rob Fyfe...

I love HuffPo's headline for this article. I was drawn
to it like a rabid dog. Another deceptive headline to make
us bite. And more hard news from HuffPo. When are
you going to originate something?

Yeah, I guess body paint doesn't count for naked.
