Air New Zealand's 'Naked' Ad Campaign

In its latest ad campaign, Air New Zealand has given new meaning to the overused business cliche "transparency." The struggling Kiwi airliner has decided to emphasize that, unlike its competitors, it has nothing to hide. Well, literally...

In the below video, extremely fit Air New Zealand employees draw raised eyebrows from travelers as they appear in body paint made to look like uniforms.

Starting Monday, the New York Times reports, Air New Zealand passengers will begin seeing similar clips in their pre-flight safety videos.

90% of the folks we think are really attractive do not look so hot sans clothes. Clothes, even skimpy cover, can keep some of the allure going. Painted naked bods under fluorescent lights - not so much. Besides, would you want to sit in an airline seat after some naked guy when cross-Pacific on it?

This is so dumb. The body paint is so well done that this is not scandalous in the least. Even if it were, they take great pains to edit and shoot the commercial so as not even to show something they perhaps are not allowed to. These people might as well just be wearing clothes, which makes the reactions of the people just seem weird. Super lame.

Also, the commercial showed men's butts many times. It should be less sexist and show some women's behinds too.

This Air New Zealand ad is competeing for the title of most tasteless air line ad ever. ANZ has to compete with the Coffee, tea or me? campaign & Fly me [I'm schmendrick] campaign. You may not call any of the prizes bobby prizes. Sexism in ads is 20th century. It's 2009.

Another example of mankind's immature fascination with the human body. It just never ends. Daily,from the media we get barraged by visual button pushers who've tapped into our most primitive part of the brain, the part that motivates us to reproduce.

I'd say that this "fascination" and the "buttons" that accompany it are the result of religion's insistance that the human body and sexuality are taboo subjects.

Did you ever visit rome? There are tons of naked sculpture, paintings and such at the vatican(!) museum, in churces, public places, buildings etc.
Its the american "christians" that are so obsessed with human bodies.

The fascination has always been around. You can go back to neolithic times and see examples of man's interest in the sexual aspects of the human body. Google the Venus of Willendorf, for example.

The reaction to nudity is somewhat modern (for Western society, anyway). But it has existed to some degree since time immemorial. It's just that in the past, slaves and the lower classes could do whatever, since they were property/objects. But men tended to guard more closely the "respectable" women since being a cuckold has throughout history been a big no-no.

Even a place as liberal as Ancient Athens did not allow women into the public square. Because it's one thing to have naked slaves and prostitutes everywhere, but it's another thing to have *your* wife treated as such...
