nydailynews.com:

Chris Brown was a no-show at Sunday night's BET Awards because producers pulled his performance at the last minute.

According to several insiders, Brown's appearance was considered risky business on a night honoring Michael Jackson. The "No Air" singer is facing negative publicity after pleading guilty to the February assault of his ex-girlfriend Rihanna.

How's that for hypocrisy? BET regularly shows "sexploitative" music videos depicting women as disposable sex objects to be degraded at every turn, then turns around, acts holier than thou, and refuses to allow domestic abuser Chris Brown to perform on their awards show.

If BET had any decency or any sense and sensibility regarding image and public morals, they would have stopped enabling all this misbehavior and the proliferation of such derogatory images a long time ago.

Dear, that's not a issue about a television network, it's about the exploitation of woman as a whole, and the entire entertainment industry is to blame, yes even Hollywood with all it's glitz and glamour.

I so agree with your statement, I stop watching BET years ago, when my daughters enter their pre-teens. (they're in there late twenties and early thirties. ) But I love hip-hop and hip-hop culture. And even though some of those sexploitation videos were onery as hell, the music was definitely
thumping. I' ve allways felt that those type of videos should've been censored because of the high volume of young people watching BET. I really belieive BET had a major influence in poisoning hip-hop culture. (Not the only influences though)
On the other hand I was looking forward in seeing Chris Brown do his Michael Jackson thing, because in my opinion the other entertainers were pretty good (especially Nemo) but it really
was missing that energy that I think Chris Brown would have brought.

If BET can let all those young guys perform with their underwear showing they could surely let Cris Brown perform. I have always respected the way Michael Jackson wore his clothes he never had his pants hanging. BET should have some guildlines about young men being so disrespectiful. Rather than just throwing something together, BET should have just had 1 tribute to Michael Sunday and at a later date take their time and get some decent performers to perform. There are a host of entertainers out there that carry them self like young men and not like tramps. Michael deserves better that that. I hope TV ONE, MTV, CNN or some other good station take their time a put a decent tribute on at later date.

Apparently Black Entertainment Tr@sh finds him too repugnant.

BET is broke they had to make do. Ok well maybe not broke, in other words Viacom lowered their funding to that network.

Black Entertainment Tr@sh has done nothing but glamorize misogyny at the expense of black women. It isn't until they tell convicted felon CB that he cannot be involved in the MJ tribute, that some black people actually have a problem with the network.

That says more about some of you than it does about Black Entertainment Tr@sh.

I am actually shocked that convicted felon, CB, wasn't allowed to perform and use MJ's d e @ th to catapult his career.

Black Entertainment Tr@sh said even that was too low for their already low class network.

Smart move.

I think that you have been making a lot of generalizations here. From what I have seen, many black people have been embarrassed by what has become of BET for a very long time. This is not the issue that makes black people (of a certain age) dislike BET. I understand that you would prefer to wait and see if an improvement has been made before you determine if there has been any rehabilitation. I personally believe that since he has pleaded guilty, and is in the process of doing his time (afforded by the courts, probation or otherwise) which includes therapy, he should be able to eventually recover from this as a better person.

isn't that the point of the justice system anyway? Do your time, hopefully rehabilitate, and then become a productive member of society. That is my issue with this outrage. People eventually should have a second chance - again, no one should tell someone else when that second chance should begin, but it's only fair.

My other issue, as I have posted before, is that while I understand that they didn't want this to overshadow their piss poor memorial, they were also very inconsistent and hypocritical since there were other felons on stage and some felons won awards. And I believe that I have to right to both understand BET's position, and call them on their hypocrisy. I'm a complex person - and yes, that says a lot about me.

I used the word "some" in response to the posters here and at BET, who are denouncing BET simply because they were mean to convicted felon CB.

Rehabilitation? Oh please. The guy was photographed arrogantly riding on a jet ski right after the incident. The guy put out a vid on YouTube blaming "haters" for his situation. Alleged domestic violence victim Mary J. Blige is doing a song with him. Usher apologized for being mean to him.

Are you kidding me? You have not witnessed a humbled Chris Brown anymore than I have, and yet you still want to offer this guy forgiveness on a silver platter just after 5 months of his felony assault.

If CB really cared about MJ's tribute/ memory, he would have willingly sat this one out. No, not CB. He wanted to ride MJ's casket on the road to redemption. And you all love and defend him for it.

What did you expect from a network you called an embarrassment? Admit you are upset that they rejected CB. You have no problem with their glamorization of misogyny at the expense of black women, you are just angry that they are being mean to CB.

You know I might have felt an once of sorrow for Brown if he actually had been apologetic and remorseful after manhandling Rhianna. I just don't know...maybe its the fact that days after he assaulted her he was vacationing down in Miami riding around on a jet ski smiling, yeah maybe that's it.

Not to mention that he's youtubing it up talking smack. He's not remotely remorseful or apologetic which means he didn't learn a dang thing.

Because of Backlash Al Sharpton was interviewed by the NY times and stated that he had nothing to do with it and BET released a statement that they didn't pull Chris but we know thats a lie because they had him on the front page of their website. Get that people backlash, they got complaints through twitter, email, phone calls. No matter what you haters say its not gonna stop Chris from making money. "TiffanyHusseinbanned" you are obsess with Chris, did he do something to you? Get your foot off of a brothers neck.

LOL oh please the problem is more black women aren't keeping their "foot" on long enough. Maybe if black women actually respected themselves, and their bodies and stop tolerating the black man to destroy the very essence of what makes them great, then maybe just maybe we would have a generation of young black women and girls who actually believe they are worth more than being some body's girlfriend, side piece, or baby momma.

That was a good move on BET's part. Brown is way to immature for adult events, he needs to have a monitor and really may need to be weaned off the bad attitude before he's ready for serious company. His thug, homies and other outlaws are where he should be until he's had time to grow a pair and learns to play well with others.

As much as Chris Brown worshiped and idolized Michael Jackson and given the fact that Michael Jackson himself identified Brown (and Justin Timberlake) as keepers of the torch going forward, I would bet that being kept away from the tribute affected him more emotionally than the actual sentence he received for assaulting Rihanna (probation and community service). Finally, there was a real consequence for his actions, albeit an unexpected one.

If only Chris could have been there. After a performance like he gave at the WMA in 2006 would've made the audience glad regardless of his mishap(s).

WMA tribute to Michael. . . . .

I am not sure what MJ would have did with his life had Chris Brown not been born.

I mean, how dare MJ d i e without having CB included in a tribute.

It's so wrong.

FOR ONCE BET stood up for something - I am actually quite surprised! They may have been more concerned about the backlash than in making a statement about how domestic violence must not be tolerated, but still, it was the correct decision. It is time that someone says that the black community (if not black women) must not go down in flames just to save a foolish, black man. This is not even a downtrodden, can't-catch-a-break black man! This is a privileged, entitled young black man who clearly thought that that he was entitled to have the honor of paying tribute to someone who many believe was the gentlest soul! So you all would rather have the implied message being relayed to black women - and men- that it is okay for men to hit women. Because, that would have been the message sent - all in the name of a dance! Undoubtedly, Chris Brown would have been the best person to adequately do justice to or even redeem that spectacle of an awards show. Undoubtedly, this was a missed opportunity for him. But if he didn't feel remorse for what he did back in February, he sure does now! If he before he didn't swear before every possible God that he would never be violent again, he's doing that now! The world is as it should be!

im wit that about jay-z and rihanna... jay-z made a comment about "what if that was ur mother or sister he beat up". Well jay-z has taken the name hove to another level and trying to pass judgement on chris. It's amazing how he has forgotten that he sold drugs before coming into the rap game. Was he thinking about all the mothers and sisters lives he might have ruined on his way up the high and mighty ladder of success. I don't think what chris done was right but just like everyone has offered rihanna help,it should have been given to him as well.
