Drea De Matteo Joins 'Desperate Housewives'

NEW YORK — Drea (DRAY) de Matteo (duh-muh-TAY'-oh) is moving to Wisteria Lane.

Aime (AY'-mee) Wolfe, the publicist for ABC's "Desperate Housewives," confirmed she will join the cast for the sixth season. Wolfe did not have further details, although EW.com quoted sources as saying that De Matteo will portray an Italian matriarch whose husband is a landscape designer.

De Matteo recently got engaged to country singer Shooter Jennings, with whom she has an 18-month-old daughter, Alabama.

De Matteo had a breakout role in "The Sopranos" as a mob girlfriend-turned-FBI informant. She later starred on the short-lived sitcom "Joey."

Last season, "Desperate Housewives" killed off original housewife Edie, played by Nicollette Sheridan.

Drea de Matteo will be a great addition to the cast. I wonder what storyline Marc Cherry has in store for her. I'm guessing the season's mystery will be revolving around her character. I just hope she will be around for more than one season.

I thought that was Porta de Rossi at first, so how odd it is that her name is Drea de Matto.

Are they actually related but have "changed" actor names?

Both are wines imported from Italy. Her real name is Tanika Bubba-Jones.

No kidding. I'd lay odds if someone were to develop an African-American version of DH, they'd be forced by producers to have at least one white family on the block.

Marc should have kept Nicolette!­!!!!!!!!!!­!!! Maybe she was right about him. Getting rid of "Edie" and bringing in Drea makes no sense at all.

Nicolette was a loss to the show , one of my favorite characters and favorite people. I dont think marc cherry got rid of her. I think she left for some reasons of her own, although I cant imagine leaving such a good gig as desperate housewives, one of the best tv shows ever. I love the way they work in famous actors for bit parts here and there. Redgrave was fabulous, Dixie Carter was at her best ever in her role there.....­Lily tomlin....­..lots of others....­. still my favorite show on tv.

Just hope the writers do a better job on her storyline than the did for her role on the ill-fated Matt LeBlanc show a few years back! LOL

I can see her running a "mob family" on Desperate Housewives -- that was be a "hoot" and she would be a great thorn in the side of Bree and Susan.

I've seen all episodes of this show and its the only drama show I watch other than the news and political comedy shows. I used to be torn between watching the Sopranos and DH on Sunday nights when the Sopranos was still in production. Drea was my favorite on the show. Now both worlds have merged. This will be interesting.
