Bernie, you don't have to worry about any sex in prison. For you there's going to be lots. Be sure and tell Ruth to bring lots of KY when she starts spending the 2.5 Mil. Oh, by the way, she wanted to know if you minded her having a live-in boyfriend?
as despicable as he is, there is always an odd aspect of genius too, in a horrible sick kind of way of course, but still......he was the very best at something!
If Harry Markopolous is correct, and I certainly have no reason even to begin to doubt him, then Madoff stole money from the Russian Mob.
If that is true, his 150 year sentence will contain only 3 months worth, if that, of words.
If he stole from that mob, his body will be the message.
well deserved..make it 1500 years
hat tip to: http://investmintideas.blogspot.com for the good articles
Doggon it Huffo quit pretending that we got away with our posts, the rules should be; if it posts it cannot be taken away.
Legal folks on the tube say he will be segregated and in a single cell - no room mate - and not exposed to the general population. He will also exercise in a segregated area.
They should have put him that max prison where we have the terrorists. They stay locked up all but 30 minutes a day, and don't get calls or letters from home. Six months of total isolation would turn this guy into a very cooperative person. If he can even stand it, the threat that we might do this to his family members who helped them (and they all did), would convince him, and them, to tell the truth and maybe come up with some more hidden accounts. They will never put him in the gen pop.
I was applying for grad school on the east coast this year. Bernie Madoff DEVASTATED endowments for Columbia, Brooklyn College, Brandeis, BU and others. The effects of his theft are wide spread and will last a long long time.
So should Phil Graham, his wife (Enron exec), former CEO of BOA, Wells Fargo, Countrywide, etc., etc.
They all be each other BYTCHES!
I sincerely doubt that they will put him in the general population.
He's a politically valuable as a poster child.
I'll believe he's serving in a real prison when it happens, he deserves to be held in some place like Rikers Leavenworth but he'll end up in something akin to what Martha Stewart did. Arts and crafts for everyone, learning how to teach others the fine points of Ponzi schemes for future generations.
I agree with this trend to treat "financial" criminals as harshly as violent criminals. So many of the people in real jail for stuff like theft, drugs, assaults that arose out of their family situation or their neighborhood b*ll, in many cases would have been remedied if they had more money. They wouldn't be hustling and arguing over a couple hundred bucks.
In the case of Madoff and the Enron types, no matter how much money they make, they never seem to adopt any better behavior or respect toward others. Their actions in no way arise out of desperation or necessity, so, in that sense, they are the more hardened criminals. Furthermore, just because they don't put their hands on someone and punch them in the nose or stab or shoot them, doesn't mean they aren't killers. How many lives did they destroy? How many suicides and domestic battery, etc., can be directly linked to the loss of many family fortunes?
While Bush/Cheney and the rest live it up after sending thousands of Americans to needless deaths as well as who knows how many Iraqi civilians.
Yeah, our justice system really works!
LOL, according to The Daily Show, the judge gave Bernie a choice. He could go to prison for 150 years or he could walk home...alone... in New York.
