"NBC Nightly News" Sees Best Ratings In Months

"NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams" delivered its best week since April, averaging 8.379 million total viewers last week. Thursday night's broadcast alone drew over 10 million viewers on the news of Michael Jackson's death that afternoon.

ABC's "World News" averaged 6.994 million total viewers, while the "CBS Evening News with Katie Couric" averaged 5.566 million total viewers. Both programs were up over the previous week, when their audiences reached record lows.

"Nightly News," which also saw its most online streams ever Thursday night (at 3.4 million), recorded its biggest advantage over second-place "World News" since February.

The NBC Nightly News is an excellent broadcast. We watch it every night at our house.

I like Brian Williams, but I like ABC local news in the SF Bay area so I usually watch Charlie Gibson. Unfortunately since the digital conversion I can't get ABC local news, so I've been tuning into NBC national news when I can pick up the signal.

I'm sure the digital conversion is playing with the ratings. But really, does it matter?

I've tried them all over the years. The most fair and balanced, efficient and unbiased, humble and intellectual, honest and sincere...­..........­...NBC, MSNBC. Absolutely, nothing comes close. Most anchors are stunningly honest and have 'character' that is endearing.

The alternative news on MSNBC went a long way to shining a light
on the policies of Bush and Cheney, and therefore greatly influenced the election of 08.
Of late however, there seems to be more scandals and looking for the most ignorant Republican voices to shake our heads about, and very little about the actual current political dialog.
Apparently no one has got the memo that the Republicans have withdrawn from the process and the real discussion is going on between Progressives who still believe in change, and status quo so-called Centrist politicians within the Democratic Party.
Now that ratings have taken off over Michael Jackson coverage, one must assume that the brass at GE are going to see this as a green light to further restrict actual news:
After all, they can say, Americans have ASKED to be stupid, just look at the ratings!
