Robert Byrd Released After Month-Long Hospital Stay

WASHINGTON — Sen. Robert Byrd's office says he's been released from the hospital and is at his Washington-area home recuperating from a more-than monthlong illness.

The 91-year-old West Virginia Democrat, who is the longest-serving senator, is continuing physical therapy as he recovers from a staph infection he contracted while hospitalized for another infection.

Aides released scant details during his hospitalization, declining even to say where he received treatment.

Byrd says he's looking forward to celebrating the nation's birthday with his family.

And I also have to say somewhere here on HP, didn't Israel attack an ship in international waters today? Where is the outrage and comments? Where is HP on this, common people. It was a humanitarian aide ship, not a vessel of national origin. This is starting the death knell of Israeli policy for Gaza; how can you turn back humanitarian aide. Wow. How absolutely disrespectful.

Many, many years ago, Sen. Byrd was a Klansman. He quit the Klan, apologized for his racism over the years, and vowed to work towards fixing that for the rest of his time in Congress, which he has. He asked for forgiveness, and most Americans accepted his apology and forgave him. Those who never learn are the problem, not those who do and work towards amending any damage done in the past.

You'd do well to take a page from this great man's chapter. Only the weak cannot find fault in themselves.

I wonder how much he got charged by his insurance providers for the month long stay in the hospital? Eventhough he qualifies for Medicare, I'm sure he has no problems with billing and payment options. I would guess it was all free to him. Nice system we all have in America.

Any laws passed that benefits Americans, over the past at least 50 years, was voted on by Sen. Byrd. He has probably voted on every health care bill, civil rights bills/amendments, senior bills, children's bills, and any other kind of bill, all of which have a positive affect on American lives, including yours.
