Wall Street Journal:

Some of the states worst hit by the recession are getting far less federal economic-stimulus money per person than states faring better.

Nevada, where unemployment stood at about 10% when the plan was passed, is getting $541 for each resident from the stimulus money allocated so far, a Wall Street Journal analysis found. Wyoming, where the 3.9% jobless rate was the lowest in the country in February, is getting $1,074 per person.

Interesting!

Nevada, Florida, North Carolina and Oregon has gotten low amount per capita. Wyoming and the Dakotas has gotten high amounts. Now, what else do these groups of states have in common? Oh yes! The first four all went to Obama (as did all the others in the lowest-receiving group), the second three all went to McCain (as did all but three+DC in the highest-receiving group).

Who was it that claimed the president is playing favourites...?

Since Red States opposed the stimulus, they obviously should get less money.

Also, Red States hardly contribute any money to the federal government... and the little they do contribute, they whine about.

Being a "Fiscal Conservative" starts at home, guys. Show America how it's done! Do more with less, and prove conservative ideology as true!

It's interesting to see that New York is getting so much stimulus money. People may think this is a good thing but all it has done is propel the State to increase spending by 9%.

In addition, western New York has yet to see funds directed upstate, in spite of the fact the economy is much worse than downstate.

This whole package is ridiculous.

New York contributes more money to the country than probably every Red State combined... yet the Red States are the ones whining about taxes.

So stop whining about what the other guy gets- being a "Fiscal Conservative" starts at home. Show America how it's done!

Floridiots would only screw it up, anyway.

Methinks our President needs to be reminded that SC did NOT help elect him but Florida did. Our gov. (who usually only helps himself) did help push the stimulus bill, we need help!!!!

Some states don't deserve a bailout as they founded their economies on bogus principles. Nevada, based on gambling and whorehouses, is a prime example. Arizona's economy is based on illegal immigrant labor. Kansas is an end-of-the-cold-war wasteland. Missouri hasn't done too well since the last westward wagon train pulled out. Nebraska is a drought blasted dustbowl that shouldn't have been settled by farmers in the first place.

The list could go on and on.

It's good that the states are getting money, but where did all that money come from in the first place? Wouldn't it have been easier and more productive to just leave the money with the citizens instead of going through all the redistribution?

Many states are welfare states; they contribute far less in taxes than they get back in Federal welfare every year.
Mississippi, for example, gets $1.84 in Federal welfare for every $1.00 it pays in Federal taxes. Other states, like New York, pay more in taxes than they get back from the Federal government. In effect, New York supports several of the welfare queen states like Mississippi.

If states were allowed to just keep all of the Federal taxes that they pay out every year, it would be great for NY but Mississippi would be a third world nation full of starving children, no roads, no hospitals, no airports, no schools, no Doctors, no universities, no health care and the list goes on and on.

Well said, but what happens when NY reaches a point where it is no longer able to fund the programs that others have become accustomed to?

I'm sure that Wyoming got a bigger share of "Homeland Defense" funding, per capita, than did NYC. No big news here in the prime target for terrorism.

Most of the stimulus money is being held back until 2010, it will be used to buy votes.

Yes sir, you are correct!!! BTW, the Phony in Chief said two weeks ago that stimulus spending would accelerate---much to my surprise, it HASN'T accelerated....

Obama stimulus = massive failure!!! Since most Democratic controlled states are the ones in serious financial trouble, I guess for the first time during this administration Obama's gonna ignore his cronies...

Dem controlled states? You better go back and take a look at the Governors of the states in the most trouble.

"Fiscal Conservatives". Kind of funny how their economic theories lead to bankruptcy and depression, every single time.
