This administration needs a new AG, or we the people need a new administration. Preferrably one that follows the rule of law.....,

like the Republican administration followed the Rule of Law?

Americans who do NOT call out the Republican perpetrators of child torture are the ones who are complicit.

The right is wrong and the left is not right on this matter as well. We can’t move forward until we clean up the clutter and wreckage that hinders our progress as a nation. We seem to be stuck in a mode that clings to a firm belief that continuing the same old lie and deny ideology is the best way forward. As a nation, we will not progress to our fullest potential until we reconcile that which is wrong in our society. Reconciliation includes admitting our deceptions, inhumane treatment and then abolishing them, not by mere words but also by deeds. We must rectify them, even utilizing the full extent of the law to prosecute those who have initiated and implemented these tactics. Far too long, we have glossed over our complicity in wrong doings. Since we profess to be a civilized nation, then professing is but one step in the direction toward being civilized. We must not only profess it, we must possess it. Professing something is but mere words. We must take ownership of that profession by possessing it and acting accordingly as civilized people. Until then, I again state, we will continue a slow process of stagnation and decline as a nation.

A 12 year old! As a parent, I cannot fathom this...how can anyone condone this, order this or feel they are protecting us with this kind of action. What are we now? Attila the Hun to the world at large?

Easy, we let about 50% of those detainees go home after 4 years sitting in Gitmo and they cannot sue or anything else. How horrible. Some people were just in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Plus the US offered money to the locals for suspected terrorists and of course, those poor chaps
needed money and fingered anyone!

yes, the Bush/Cheney/Rumsfeld War Crime administration offered money for suspected terrorists so they could get warm bodies in GITMO and faces to blame for THEIR terror, there is absolutely no other reason that is plausible.

War crimes trials are way too big an issue for this administration or congress to deal with. Just look at the economy, job losses, bailouts for the rich, healthcare for all and 2 wars for nothing. Sadly the current crop of Dems are way to weak and spinless to stand up for us much less the constitution. Hell they can't even cutoff war contractors or bogus weapons systems that are not needed or don't work. This is not looking good or much like the change we thought we were voting for does it?

Perhaps we need to start donating to the prosecutor in Spain who is trying to go after the Bush war criminal syndicate? Clearly, our nation no longer knows how to uphold the rule of law.

Clearly a Republican administration failed to uphold the Rule of Law while they were strip-mining the economy, creating illegal wars, defrauding taxpayers through shill companies and torturing children.

And a so called *democtratic* administration wants to be "forward looking" and embraces the nuremberg defense.

The CURRENT justice dept wants to protect Cheney from late night comics.

So who is the apologist again?

This administration doesn't want to uphold the rule of law because they themselves are engaging in illegal activities, at least as bad as the last admin, if not worse.

"..You saw the headline: "OBAMA BANS TORTURE." But it was a lie. Obama's CIA director told Congress that there's a "review process that's built into [Obama's] executive order" that allows torture to continue. Leon Panetta said the Obama Administration will keep using at least 19 torture techniques against detainees. In addition, Team Obama will "look at those kinds of enhanced techniques to determine how effective they were or weren't and whether any appropriate revisions need to be made as a result of that."..."

Wow.

No.

"The "19 techniques" are, in fact, the Army Field Manual techniques which have never been at issue, at least not that I'm aware of. In fact, the main thrust behind the two congressional torture ban laws were to limit the techniques to the AFM techniques -- bills that we all supported. (One bill became law, but the other, regarding the CIA's use of torture, failed in early 2008. McCain famously voted 'no'. Now, with the president's executive order, the CIA is forbidden from using torture, too.)"

I think you're right - that our only hope for justice is a foreign entity such as Spain.

My prediction: the judge will find the evidence inadmissible, and set the precedent that will have to be followed henceforth. A judge's opinion is very powerful.

I'm clueless on how we'll make restitution to the young man.

The precedent is already there and has been as long as there has been law. Forced confessions are not admissible.

didn`t the "brilliant" Bush torture lawyers already know that when they wrote their illegal justification for torturing children?

[A]ccording to Jawad’s defense attorney Maj. Frakt, in September 2003, “when an interrogator observed Mohammad talking to posters on the wall of the interrogation room and was concerned about his mental health,” instead of calling a mental health professional to care for him, they summoned the BSCT team, whose psychologist made a “cruel and heartless assessment and recommendations.” Maj. Frakt called the BSCT psychologist’s report, which was classified secret and therefore not discussed in detail in the open court session, “the most chilling document of all.”

How many children had to be tortured before Republicans call for a War Crimes trial for the Bush/Cheney administration?

How many children did Bush & Cheney have to torture before a Republican calls for their heads and demands a trial for War Crimes?

Republican`s call for Sanford to step down but are silent on the torture of children by the Bush administration.

How much more pathetic can they be?

Leave it to the Washington Post not to clarify the dates of more War Crimes committed by the Bush/Cheney torture regime.

"At a pretrial hearing on June 19, 2008, Maj. Frakt argued a motion to dismiss the case on the ground that Jawad was subjected to a regime of sleep deprivation in Guantanamo known as the “frequent flyer program.” Maj. Frakt’s motion was based in large part on Jawad’s detention records, which were turned over by the government on discovery. The records show that prison guards moved Jawad from cell to cell 112 times over a two week period, shackling, moving and unshackling him on average every two hours and fifty minutes. Just several months earlier, Jawad had attempted suicide. Jawad testified at the hearing as did a sleep deprivation expert."

Just another one of BUSH& CHENEY`S WAR CRIMES.

where is your outrage that Republicans tortured children in an illegal war they lied to create for profit for themselves? until then you are complicit in their crimes and an apologist for them regardless of projecting the avatar of a liberal.

Where is the change we could believe in? This isn't change! This is Bush Part Deux! And why is our government horrified of 12 year old BOYS? Are they afraid he'll file the biggest lawsuit for wrongful arrest and detention which will result in the biggest monetary award in all of human history?

Last time I checked, President Obama was not President on Dec 17th, 2002. Nor was there a crime committed by the 12 year old on Dec 17th, 2002. Matter of fact, an Army Colonel said the confession was illegally coerced by Afghans who threatened to kill the boys family if he did not confess. The soldiers on the ground tried to stop this crime. They were unsuccessful. By refusing to release the young, INNOCENT man, President Obama is now playing a role in this crime.

What part of that do you not understand?
