The CIA ought to be very proud they tortured a 12 year old kid. Those people make me sick. Grown men and possibly women torturing kids. That is cause for the death penality if there ever was one. I am disgusted at these sick people.

Did anyone here read the Washington Post article? The disputed statements were used in the military commission trials by the DOJ under the previous administration in November last year, and the military Judge ruled their inadmissibility. The matter hasn't come up for hearing yet before the District Judge, under this administration's watch, but ACLU has just filed papers asking the District Judge to make the same ruling about the same statements. The DOJ hasn't filed any papers yet, nor have they indicated that they intend to use those statements (which were obtained under toruture, probably), so will everyone just take a deep breath and stop blaming this administration for something that hasn't happened yet. Sheesh.

Nothing you are saying here explains why this kid hasn't been released. He should have millions of American dollars in his pocket sitting on a beach of his liking by now. This is sick. How can this country justify putting people in jail for child abuse when the government itself is guilty of that very crime.

Spanking a child in public is cause for arrest in this country yet this crap goes on.
Where the fu@# is the outrage America?

Let's not forget that a military judge had already discarded as inadmissible the confession based on the torture (ooops! I'm supposed to write Enhanced interrogation techniques? My bad!) of this kid.

Yet, the bastards at the DOJ still insist on using it. What is their problem exactly? Is this a case of politics trying to avoid the embarrassment of having to admit publicly that the US persisted in keeping behind bars a kid that they knew with almost certainty was innocent?

Wouldn't be the first time: The case that gave birth the the doctrine of State Secrets was ironically a case of CYA for gross negligence by the US DOD. Took 50 years to uncover the truth, yet the doctrine still stand. Proof positive that Courts should never defer to the Executive without asking the tough questions when it comes to withholding information.

no, you can write torture, that`s what it was. The child was picked up on Dec 17th, 2002.

"Jawad's situation received attention last year when a military prosecutor abruptly quit his post, saying that the case was riddled with problems and that the prisoner had suffered physical and psychological mistreatment while in custody."

LAST YEAR the prosecutor quit, that means the torture took place before then, when the Bush/Cheney torture brigade was still operating.

The USA still holds Omar Khadr - the Canadian 'taken by the USA' when a child.
He has been tortured to the point of permanent blindness and the USA had refused Canadian and UN demands for his release.

Kidnapping and torture of a child violates ALL international laws and is an act of war against Canada.
Funny how this isn't a story here.

Glenn Greenwald wrote quite extensively about the Khadr's case. I don't have the link handy, but a search through salon.com should work easily.

No it isn't funny at all. Why hasn't Canada been more vocal about this disgusting activity by the CIA? The CIA needs to be closed down and all torturers executed slowly.

There are other cases. Both of Khalid Sheik Mohammed's boys were detained and had "enhanced interrogation methods" applied. They were 6 and 9 years old at the time. They were placed in constraint positions in boxes and had insects placed on them. Yoo's directive, issued just a week before, interestingly, allowed destinged insects, such as scorpions, to be placed on detainees. This was intended to get the boys to reveal the location of their father...which they didn't know.

Months later videos of the children being interrogated were shown KSM.

We still don't know what happened to these children, or their mother.

In the civil liberties department, have you seen anything else from this Administration?
Sorry to say, but behavior trumps rhetoric.

And that's from an Obama supporter, mind you.

Sounds like we were trying to compete with Israel in regards to torture back then. What is wrong with this country? As a Veteran I am truly ashamed!
