Ny Senate Coup
GOP Senate leader Dean Skelos

New York Times:

As the stalemate in the State Senate stuttered through its fourth week, a crucial deadline came and went: June 30. It was the expiration date of more than a dozen statutes that authorize local governments to carry out their everyday duties, from planning budgets to collecting taxes.

All because the gop is a bunch of sore losers and can't accept the fact they are now irrelevant.

New York voters will remember this and make them an even smaller minority.

Here's the real travesty. New Yorkers are tuned in to the Michael Jackson story. The average New York State resident is clueless about what is currently going on - or rather NOT going on - in their NYS government. And when election time rolls around they will not hold their state senator accountable and vote him/her out of office.

The New York State legislature is a national embarassment. New York state overall is the quintessential example of a past reputation for honorable deeds being eclipsed by legalized corruption infestation, and a populace seemingly powerless to do anything about it.

New Yorkers have the heaviest and most onerous personal and business tax structure in the nation, which also means the worst in the world; yes, that does mean on the entire planet earth. The state produces governors notorious for adultery, and city mayors who announce their personal divorce situations at press conferences while having their mistresses taxi'ed to the Hamptons in city police cars. New Yorkers are divided by Upstate and Downstate animosity, city to city animosity and inability to consolidate resource sharing, Where else aside from possibly Iran can you find state police, county sheriff, and a city police presence all in the same town, population 10,000? Or snowplows that pick up their plow blades when they cross streets that happen to be in a city, but are a state road, and put them back down on the other side of the intersection.

That these clowns cannot figure out the results of legal elections is nothing new. This is the state that sells itself its own bridges, tunnels, and toll roads, and counts the sell price as income. The idea of making anywhere from $80,000 to $150,000 a year for a part time job, and no public or news entity can make them behave like adults? Criminal.

If I were the Democratic leader, I'd make the following deal with Pedro Espada. Return to the Democratic caucus immediately and without further negotiation, and we might decide not to get you tossed out on your behind next year. Say what you want about Sheldon Silver, and I am definitely not one of his fans, but if he was the Senate Democratic leader, this would have been over before it started.

That won't work.

Without question, Golissano has promised Espada all the money he needs to get re-elected. He bribed the b*stard. Legally - as he has his own PAC and has promised to support candidates he "believes in" (read that as candidates he can buy).

Totally corrupt to start with and further corrupted by the Rochester billionaire, to boot.

Michael Jackson's funeral is more important. I'm beginning to think a benevolent dictatorship might work.

Do you know the answer to the question, "What is the difference between ignorance and apathy?"

"I don't know and I don't care."

These guys are playing petty, childish games at our expense. Acting like 3-year olds tittering at each other from across the room.

What should happen is Patterson and the police arrive at the senate chamber, depose and arrest all the offending senators, and then hold a special election to replace them all. After the senate is back in operation, hold a trial, convict the senators of treason or some other crime against the state and the people, and punish them.

At election time, New Yorkers must remember the shenanigans of these clowns and vote all of them out. I'm tired of partisan politics, no matter how these pols justify their choices. Each of them is in it for the personal power; I don't care what they say. If they cared about us, they would not be playing with the keys and locks.

I agree. The guys in NYS Senate REFUSE TO BE STATESMEN.
They show no interest in the needs of NYS voters and citizens.

We should convict these senators of crimes against the state and the people,
stop their fat salaries and punish them
with JAIL TIME.
