What's Your Reaction?
Minnesota Senate

Yesterday, Al Franken, after a protracted Hundred Years War with Norm Coleman that played out in front of every legal body in the state of Minnesota, finally became Senator Al Franken, giving the Democrats a 60-vote caucus and a new set of challenges as to how they will manage to excuse disappointing their constituents going forward. You may ask yourself, "Huh, I wonder how all of Franken's opponents in the media are taking it?" Not very well, as it turns out!

You can watch for yourself, if you like, in this video mashup from Media Matters! Sean Hannity: he still BELIEVES, Y'ALL, that Coleman won! Glenn Beck says it's the equivalent of Glenn Beck being made Senator! Even that brown-haired dude from Fox And Friends, ol' what's his face, has a sad about it! Yes, Al Franken is the New New Reason Democracy Has Died, thus ending the reign of the Huffington Post's own Nico Pitney.

From where I perch, it's like a whole new set of Americans now are angry at the way a recount was decided, and are worried over their belief that Minnesota is represented by a crazy person. There's another group of Americans who know what that feels like, I think! So really, isn't Al Franken just bringing the whole country together, in empathy? Probably not!

Hey where is Oreilly;s reaction. He seemed to dislike Franken the most.

I love it. Just watching those hacks gnaw their guts out in hostility and frustration almost makes me want to watch Fox news. If they would promise to run nothing but stories that covered how much they hate Al Frankin I would promise to tune in every day. I'm telling you kids, I've been through LBJ, Nixon, two Bushes, the rise of the Moral Majority and the dominance of the "neo-conservative" right. Payback is a bitch. Politics just doesn't get sweeter than this.

This is just a case study in the inevitable truth that neither liberals, conservatives nor independents have a monopoly on the moral authority. I will also say that a definitive barometer of a person's -or movement's- character is not only how they behave in victory and in yielding power, but also how they handle defeat and being in the minority.

I just want to comment on Hannity's bottom-third on the headline photo. It reads "Will Cap and Trade bill lead to the biggest tax increase in U.S. History?" (obligatory question mark so they can play coy).

The average household yearly cost of this bill is $175 dollars. I really do feel sorry for people who are wholly in the grips of these people.

Yep, they sure don't get it. Colbert should start writing policy and submitting it. I would bet they would act on it.

Is that "as opposed to the Hard Dictatorship we had from the last administration'? The only thing that stopped Bush from further destroying our nation was the loss of majority control in 2006. Even then without a 2/3rds majority, Bush managed to override every attempt to correct things by wielding his veto power.

The country is already in the worst shape since 1930 thanks to 14 of the last 16 years with a republican congress and 8 years of Bush/Chenye/Rove. I'm an independent that dislikes republicans because of what they have done to this country. But never fear, repubs still have the leadership of Gingrich, Limbaugh and Cheney to count on. And don't forget Palin

Amen. I'm an independent also and it is sad how republicans have destroyed this country by going to a war that was needless,(Therefore spending money and resources we didn't have), disastrous economic policies and the list goes on and on. I would have more respect for them if they had owned up to this .

Hatred is a trap. Republicans as a political party laughed at it, deliberately stepped into it, and they are now in over their heads.

They will never, ever, escape.

Excellent insight.

Another trap they fell into was divisiveness. Every time they used a wedge issue to divide, they took every single American who was on the other side of that wedge issue and made an enemy for life.

Each wedge issue peeled off another subset of Americans from being potential Republican supporters who they may never get back.

Now the Republicans are down to the 20% of the country who are right-wing purists. They successfully collapsed their "big tent" into a mummy sleeping bag.
