Henry Waxman Hospitalized

WASHINGTON — Democratic Rep. Henry Waxman remained in the hospital in his home state of California on Wednesday, a day after fainting in his office.

Waxman, 69, was not feeling well Tuesday and was admitted to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles for "routine testing," spokeswoman Karen Lightfoot said.

In a brief update late in the day, Waxman's staff disclosed that the congressman had fainted in his district office in California.

Waxman, chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, last week finished steering climate change legislation through a close vote in the House. He had been gearing up to tackle health care later in the summer.

"Chairman Waxman did not feel well and fainted in his office," said the update from his office. "He is undergoing evaluation at Cedars-Sinai. He is feeling fine today and is in good spirits."

I wish the best for Henry Waxman and hope for a quick recovery. I was a Young Dem in Southern California in the 60s also, and though I never met him, we knew of him and were proud of him then, and still are.

At least he has great government -run health care. Glad he is in good spirits....he can also get firsthand views on the health care system in this country, that is of course unless the hospital doesn't play favorites because he is a member of Congress.

Waxman is a politician. He did his part to help Bush&Cheney cover their tracks & make a clean getaway.

I think we need to reassess our support for a Democratic Party that has been taken over by the DLC & is morphing into the NewRepublicanParty. Even the most innocent of explanations for their failure to achieve any of our alleged shared objectives is that they are inept. Now that it's coming down to our very survival as individuals & as Americans on the planet (competing with new world powers for resources in an ever more dangerous world) there is no room for 'inept'.

Personally, I don't happen to think that they're inept. They know how to get our business done -- They just don't want to do it. The trick for them has been to keep the many different populist groups believing that they really do support our issues, but that they're merely inept. And to get us to keep voting for them in spite of their failure to deliver for us.

Our mistake is in believing that the Democrats want to pass any of it. If Democrats could get away with keeping these issues unresolved forever, they'd do that, because it keeps us dissatisfied & powerless, in disarray, but organized just enough to collect our money to fight the "evil empire Republicans".
