Henry Waxman Hospitalized

WASHINGTON — Democratic Rep. Henry Waxman remained in the hospital in his home state of California on Wednesday, a day after fainting in his office.

Waxman, 69, was not feeling well Tuesday and was admitted to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles for "routine testing," spokeswoman Karen Lightfoot said.

In a brief update late in the day, Waxman's staff disclosed that the congressman had fainted in his district office in California.

Waxman, chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, last week finished steering climate change legislation through a close vote in the House. He had been gearing up to tackle health care later in the summer.

"Chairman Waxman did not feel well and fainted in his office," said the update from his office. "He is undergoing evaluation at Cedars-Sinai. He is feeling fine today and is in good spirits."

Waxman is my Congressman. He's one of the few Democrats who stood up to Bush. He's the kind of progressive I'd like to see as President. But he's not as pretty or as well spoken as the present occupant of the office. I hope he gets well and back to work as soon as he can. We need him. We need more like him.

I'm not fighting against myself. Obama is not as progressive as I'd like our President to be. I wasn't putting him down. Waxman is more progressive than Obama. I prefer Waxman to Obama. Fortunately for Waxman, he does not have to worry about health care insurance woes in addition to his health concerns. I wish him well as he is a big proponent of a public healthcare option and seems to be motivated to do that which in the best interests of the Nation. God speed, Rep. Waxman.

Good thing he has the best GOVERNMENT insurance plan in the Nation. Don't worry. US Senators and former Presidents (and their wives) live longer than ANY other Americans - bar none. WE pay for it.

These comments are nuts. Waxman is one of the few in Congress who truly believes that government is there to help people as opposed to the Reagan BS about being the problem. He will get a health care plan through Congress that will truly be for the people's benefit, not the insurance companies' benefit.
