WASHINGTON — Democratic Rep. Henry Waxman remained in the hospital in his home state of California on Wednesday, a day after fainting in his office.

Waxman, 69, was not feeling well Tuesday and was admitted to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles for "routine testing," spokeswoman Karen Lightfoot said.

In a brief update late in the day, Waxman's staff disclosed that the congressman had fainted in his district office in California.

Waxman, chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, last week finished steering climate change legislation through a close vote in the House. He had been gearing up to tackle health care later in the summer.

"Chairman Waxman did not feel well and fainted in his office," said the update from his office. "He is undergoing evaluation at Cedars-Sinai. He is feeling fine today and is in good spirits."

Best wishes Congressman Waxman! Ignore the trolls and idiots and keep on fighting for a public option. It's not reform without it.

Dallasmike,

U really don't understand what you are talking about do you? Nor do you understand the Federal Employees Health Benefits Program. Once again someone critical but clueless.

Obama admitted the same thing, he isn't gonna give up his health care and neither will any of the senators ramming this through. 300 page amendment at 3:00AM on the day of the vote. Obama's czar on the issue admitted she hasn't even read it. This sham is almost as bad as the cap and tax scam.

He has a government plan, which is far better than having nothing at all. Years ago when I worked in the government, I had the FEHBP and there were several choices, BCBS, Kaiser, Aetna, and I think one other. I chose Kaiser and I picked the health care center, and after some research on the different doctors, and some time spent with a couple of them, I chose my primary care doctor and my kids' pediatrician. I used to love, love the kids' doctor and my doctor was cool but I was always healthy so I only saw him once or twice a year. I had a co-payment of $5 for the kids when they became adolescents, and then it went up to $10 after a while. I had 3 kids during that time, all with the "government insurance plan", and all of my hospital bills, and the newborn babies bills were paid in full, including their shots and wellness visits.

During those years, there were several broken bones, eye glasses, contacts, allergies, even ADHD medication & counseling services, not to mention dental care. It was all there, everything we needed to be covered.

At the least, that's what I'd like to have again. This is what we are fighting for now, and only the most ignorant Americans call it anything other than health care for all Americans.

It isn't gonna happen like that. It's too expensive. Notice you CHOSE Kaiser. There won't be any choices.

These GOP talking points sure are getting tiresome. If you are fortunate enough to have an employer who offers a good health insurance plan at work, then avail yourself of it. If you are among the many who work full-time but are not offered health insurance through your employer, then you need access to affordable healthcare. Private insurers are for-profit corporations and charge individuals huge premiums for coverage and only give discounts to huge pools of people (typically large corporations). If Medicare were open to me as a newly disabled person, then I would sign up tomorrow and pay any reasonable premium requested of me. If private insurers were to reorganize and offer lower premiums, then I would sign up with one of them (assuming they accept my pre-existing condition). Right now, I have zero options for healthcare insurance. This is wrong in America. This is not a Republican or Democrat issue, it is an American issue.

Fortunately he has a first class medical plan that won't be effected by the Obama healthcare plan.

He is a Congressman so his health plan is a government run option that many in congress don't want you or I to have and try to label "Socialism".

Probably from lack of sleep... you know, staying up until 3:09 am to put through a 300 page amendment to a bill that no one read.

He must have choked on that monstrosity of a bill he pushed through Congress. What a mistake this will be for our Country. Hope he gets well just so he can be beaten in his next re-election attempt.

So tell me, other than der republikan talking points that you hear over and over giving your marching orders and telling you that you should be against the bill, tell us in your words what about the bill don't you like? I'm guessing that you don't have anything.

The Republican talking points may just be valid as we have once again a bill that was thrown together with such haste that it could not be read by all members of Congress. You do not see any problem with 300 pages being dropped on Congress at 3 am for consideration the next day. The problem I have is the manner that the bill is being presented. It becomes highly suspicious when a party is not transparent to the opposition when trying to pass legislation. I did not have my promised 72 hours to read the bill as a citizen. If you are going to promise a transparent, ethical way to handle legislation, I believe that you should be held to your word. I do not see this happening. By the way, I am not a Republican, but am an Independent who is now questioning my vote in November. I have no love for either party, as I see only a change in names, not a change in business as usual. The Democrats and Republicans are all about pressing their agendas no matter what the consequence to our Country. Go ahead and continue to paint people like me with your broad brush at your own peril.

Waxman, one of the good guys in Congress is now chairman of the important House Committee on Energy and Commerce which has principal responsibility for legislative oversight relating to telecommunications, consumer protection, food and drug safety, public health, air quality and environmental health, the supply and delivery of energy, and interstate and foreign commerce in general. This jurisdiction extends over five Cabinet-level departments and seven independent agencies--from the Energy Department, Health and Human Services, the Transportation Department to the Federal Trade Commission, Food and Drug Administration, and Federal Communications Commission.
We cannot afford to have him at less than full effectiveness in this job. Get well soon, Henry.
