Henry Waxman Hospitalized

WASHINGTON — Democratic Rep. Henry Waxman remained in the hospital in his home state of California on Wednesday, a day after fainting in his office.

Waxman, 69, was not feeling well Tuesday and was admitted to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles for "routine testing," spokeswoman Karen Lightfoot said.

In a brief update late in the day, Waxman's staff disclosed that the congressman had fainted in his district office in California.

Waxman, chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, last week finished steering climate change legislation through a close vote in the House. He had been gearing up to tackle health care later in the summer.

"Chairman Waxman did not feel well and fainted in his office," said the update from his office. "He is undergoing evaluation at Cedars-Sinai. He is feeling fine today and is in good spirits."

I've been trying to get my hands around why those like Waxman here seem to let republicans argue that 'Government will run' healthcare under the Obama Plan, yet he does not challenge them to go on record and declare that: what is currently in place is being run on behalf of the American people. I don't know if the lack of dealing with the power and reach of the Insurance Industry is the reason no seems willing on the Dems side to openly challenge a system where these firms basically set services that they tell the Doctor he or she can offer, but it is quite literally odd that they continue to let the republicans paint the picture that the insurance firms are doing such a great job.

The other thing that Waxman and the Dems have failed to do is to make their critics prove that what they claim is wrong with the Dem's plan is wrong. In other words, if I openly claim that the plan you put forth will create a public hazard, I must have more than a personal objection; I must show how what is being proposed actually does not work. And, while the republicans are extremely weak and fighting among themselves, they still have more legitimacy than they deserved, based on them presenting firm alternatives.

The Dems need to grow a spine and put a fork in the republicans.

If you followed Waxman you would know he IS the backbone of congress. Problem: the full load is pretty much on his back. He is one of the few who stands up and fights for what is right.
