CBS News:

Internal campaign e-mails exchanged three weeks before Election Day offer a rare look at just how frustrated then Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin had become with the manner in which top McCain campaign aides were handling her candidacy. The e-mails, obtained exclusively, also highlight the power struggle and thinly veiled acrimony that pervaded the relationship between Palin and the campaign's chief strategist, Steve Schmidt.

I LOVED the part where Palin could not handle .........20.............staff!..........lol

She is SUPPOSED to be a governor of a state. Even as small as Alaska is ( in population), there must be AT LEAST 20 staff in the governors office!

I loved the Vanity Fair story. It's important for more than Sarah's own version of Sarah to be out there.
She is ambitious and seems ruthless. Power for power's sake. She has no real interest in public service.

I love the part where Schmidt tells Palin she is asking him to lie about Todd Palin's 7-year membership in AIG. Classic!

Maybe it didn't surface in the 2008 campaign as it should have, but if this woman makes it to 2012 or any other 20xx, this stuff needs to come out in full force.

I could not agree more. Why was this issue not pushed in 2008 when the rethugs had that ridiculous "country first" platform?.. Palin only looks out for Palin. There should have been a constant reference to the AIP and Todd'smembership in it.

It was out there; even Olbermann covered it. For some reason it never took hold. Perhaps because of the whole "family is off limits" message that confused everyone on the left. We hated Michelle being attacked but wanted to be able to point out Todd's (and possibly Sarah's) involvement. As horrible as SP is, she is cunning and I think the left and the media really didn't know how to cover her because of her mock-outrage-as-distraction technique.

I think they were saving it in case they needed it in the last few weeks before the election. Since O was pulling ahead, they never had to use it.

"take anecdotal evidence of a minor problem and extrapolate it into something far more menacing"

Exactly what this article does by using a FEW emails on ONE topic to make a big story about nothing.
Again, this is not all that the headlines make it. So she wanted some action to be taken. Big deal. Having run her own successful campaigns for mayor and Governor, I am sure that she had some insight into what would be best for her campaign. Unfortunately, she had to listen to the McCain 'experts'. They are just trying to cover their own behinds and blame her for running a bad campaign.

Running for mayor of a hamlet in alaska and governor of a state with less people than most major cities is no where near the same as running for President of the United States. I tend to vote Republican and I was enfuriated when she was picked, she's not intelligent, nor is she fit to be President/Vice President......ever.

Thank you, sir or madam, for having the courage to step up as a Republican voter to state what is so patently obvious that anyone, regardless of party affiliation, can see but so far very few on your side of the aisle would ever decry.

If I were a Republican, last summer I would have seriously questioned her nomination from the outset, and then been as outraged as you are with the apparent lack of due diligence or serious vetting, again which became obvious once she opened her mouth and the truth about her started dribbling out.

This is far more than a Republican vs. Democratic Party issue. When a vice president is selected to the national ticket, that person must be thoroughly vetted, scrutinized, and investigated not so much from the standpoint of how that nomination benefits the party, but rather what that person can do to benefit the country in the event the president should be incapacitated.

Does anyone believe that this woman had the capacity, intelligence, knowledge, and judgment to have become president, if McCain had won and then for whatever could not serve?

I think not.

I also hope and pray that the GOP will learn from this experience and follow your advice not only about Sarah Palin but others of questionable qualifications as well.

It was not her campaign. She was running for VP not president, though she seemed to ignore the difference.
I would not vote for Sarah to be dog catcher.

Really? A big story about nothing? Her husband was a member of a political party which includes secession as part of its platform. Just prior to her nomination, she SPOKE via video at their convention. She wanted Schmidt to LIE to the reporters. That's not nothing, it is indicative of this woman's feelings about this country and of her lack of character.

I might add that she was mayor of a town of about 7,000 people and governor of a state with a population about the size of Ft. Worth, Texas, many of whom have no clue who Sarah Palin is.

Meet Sarah Palin's radical right-wing pals;
Alaskan Independence Party

Extremists Mark Chryson and Steve Stoll helped launch Palin's political career in Alaska, and in return had influence over policy. "Her door was open," says Chryson -- and still is.

Chryson says the door remains open now that Palin is governor. (Palin's office did not respond to Salon's request for an interview.) While Palin has been more circumspect in her dealings with groups like the AIP as she has risen through the political ranks, she has stayed in touch.

When Palin ran for governor in 2006, marketing herself as a fresh-faced reformer determined to crush the GOP's ossified power structure, she made certain to appear at the AIP's state convention. To burnish her maverick image, she also tapped one-time AIP member and born-again Republican Walter Hickel as her campaign co-chair. Hickel barnstormed the state for Palin, hailing her support for an "all-Alaska" liquefied gas pipeline, a project first promoted in 2002 by an AIP gubernatorial candidate named Nels Anderson. When Palin delivered her victory speech on election night, Hickel stood beaming by her side. "I made her governor," he boasted afterward. Two years later, Hickel has endorsed Palin's bid for vice president.

Extremists Mark Chryson and Steve Stoll helped launch Palin's political career in Alaska, and in return had influence over policy. "Her door was open," says Chryson -- and still is.

By Chryson's account, he and Palin also worked hand-in-glove to slash property taxes and block a state proposal that would have taken money for public programs from the Permanent Fund Dividend, or the oil and gas fund that doles out annual payments to citizens of Alaska. Palin endorsed Chryson's unsuccessful initiative to move the state Legislature from Juneau to Wasilla. She also lent her support to Chryson's crusade to alter the Alaska Constitution's language on gun rights so cities and counties could not impose their own restrictions. "It took over 10 years to get that language written in," Chryson said. "But Sarah [Palin] was there supporting it."

With Sarah as a mayor," said Chryson, "there were a number of times when I just showed up at City Hall and said, 'Hey, Sarah, we need help.' I think there was only one time when I wasn't able to talk to her and that was because she was in a meeting."

Alaskan Independence Party

Extremists Mark Chryson and Steve Stoll helped launch Palin's political career in Alaska, and in return had influence over policy. "Her door was open," says Chryson -- and still is.

On the afternoon of Sept. 24 in downtown Palmer, Alaska, as the sun began to sink behind the snowcapped mountains that flank the picturesque Mat-Su Valley, 51-year-old Mark Chryson sat for an hour on a park bench, reveling in tales of his days as chairman of the Alaska Independence Party. The stocky, gray-haired computer technician waxed nostalgic about quixotic battles to eliminate taxes, support the "traditional family" and secede from the United States.

So long as Alaska remained under the boot of the federal government, said Chryson, the AIP had to stand on guard to stymie a New World Order.

In 1995, her husband, Todd, changed his voter registration to AIP. Except for an interruption of a few months, he would remain registered was an AIP member until 2002, when he changed his registration to undeclared.

"They worked behind the scenes," said Stein. "I think they had a lot of influence in terms of helping with the back-scatter negative campaigning."

My prediction is that Sarah will have been committed to a psychiatric facility before 2012.. Good chance that she will be sharing a room with Michelle Bachman.

From www.themudflats.net blog post:

And here"s a nice quote from a meeting of the Alaskan Independence Party after Palin became governor, and before the nomination.

"Our current governor, we mentioned at the last conference, the one we were hoping would get elected, Sarah Palin, did get elected. There"s a joke, she"s a pretty good looking gal, there"s a joke goes around we"re the coldest state with the hottest governor. (laughter) And there was a lot of talk about her moving up. She was an AIP member before she got the job as a mayor of a small town " that was a non-partisan job. But to get along and go along " she eventually joined the Republican Party, where she had all kinds of problems with their ethics, and well, I won"t go into that. She also had about an 80% approval rating, and is pretty well sympathetic to her former membership."

Take some time and read entire post.
