Internal campaign e-mails exchanged three weeks before Election Day offer a rare look at just how frustrated then Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin had become with the manner in which top McCain campaign aides were handling her candidacy. The e-mails, obtained exclusively, also highlight the power struggle and thinly veiled acrimony that pervaded the relationship between Palin and the campaign's chief strategist, Steve Schmidt.

The more I learn of these matters, the more I admire Steve Schmidt. Clearly he had to deal with enormous challenges. Palin did not and does not have the credibility or morals to be a national leader.

Clearly this woman has no understanding of National and International affairs (seems to not be interested at all). She can't riff beyond a talking point. That is scary for us.
But, for a political Prof. Higgins she is a nightmare. They can take a Reagan or a GWB and mold them. Turn them into something. Palin has the charisma. The camera loves her. But, they can't get past her. She can't get past herself. She can't understand the game of it all. It is all so personal to her. Can't be a National politician and take thing personally. You could be a PTA member in Wasilla. There are crazy Mayors all over this country destroying their towns and playing King for a term.
She does not get it. She just does not.
In that email is first class political advise. First class consultation on how to handle a situation. How to take the air out of it. She is too stupid to recognize it. These guys are pros. She did not think Schmit came to the table with experience beyond defusing a spouse's involvement in a radical political party? What is the matter with her? She thinks she knows more than these people who do this for a living? For God's sake these people know how to get around a Cocaine Problem, your wife's DUI that killed a person, AWOL in a time of war....... Is she kidding? What a waste of time she is.
Really good insight; I would add only that your assessment explains in large part, I think, her appeal to an audience wholly lacking in political sophistication or even the basic have-to's of social interaction -- an audience that likely overreacts or responds inappropriately to everyday perceived slights, stresses, etc, by personalizing the generic and missing the point at every opportunity. And that is not a small group.
The Dems now have 60 senate seats, the house, and the presidency. and still they are going after Palin? Why? It is time to lead, to move forward from the past.

Palin would be a godsend in the 2012 campaign, but sadly, I don't think she'll make it past the primaries. Also, too.
I really don't think she will make it to the primaries. It is inevitable that she will eventually be caught out
with "the big lie." Her credibility keeps crumbling and her attempts to patch it tend to make things worse. "Oh what a tangled web we weave, when first we practice to deceive." Just ask Mark Sanford how that all works out.

reading that explains why she reacted like a crazy person over the Letterman thing and blew that completely out of proportion. She did with the Katie Couric interview. I guess it sometimes works for her so she keeps doing it. People seem to enable her this way... and what was disappointing is that Letterman did too.
Now that she doesn't have any handlers we can all watch her implode.

It's amazing how Palin considers telling the truth to be an "option". She just shades the truth to her liking----it's frightening. People who tell small lies----usually tell big lies.
Here is just a recap from the last few days. It's easy to see a pattern.
Palin said that Todd accidentally clicked the wrong box on his election form, and she said that she corrected it the next year. (Truth-O-Meter says: Todd was a member of the AIP for seven years and Palin gave the opening address to them).
I had the Secret Service swear not to tell about my bandage....shhhhh....it's a secret. (Truth-O-Meter says, it was all over the news and we saw photos of Palin waving with her secret bandage).
Palin claimed they had no insurance and was trying to convince the campaign to let her say that they didn't have insurance. (Truth-O-Meter says, they had insurance catastrophic all along.
Just more evidence of how John McCain loss his dignity and honor to try and become president. He gave all that up, and he didn't have a chance. It's like selling your soul to the devil. I have long ago lost all respect for JOHN MCCain. Isn't it sad how a man , all his life works for honor and dignity , and gives it up in a matter of days. What was he thinking of to have someone like Palin as a running mate?

It is certainly possible, but not probable, that someone like John McCain can go 72 years as a dignified and honorable person and then lose it all in a matter of days. John McCain had been working at it for his whole life. What he did has drop his guard and expose what was really a facade during those few days.
Come on John McCain was never honorable. Just read his bio, his done despicable things his whole life. Accepting Palin and her lies fits right in with the rest.
never thought I’d day this but...I haven new found respect for Steve Schmidt. Excellent email exchange. lol. and Palin dear, 'pls' is not a word...its what kids use in text messages with limited space NOT what an adult ‘professional’ uses in a serious email exchange. Spell out the whole word PLEASE.
Did you understand what she meant? Then it's ok in a personal e-mail. I dislike Palin intensely, but this is not a substantitve complaint.
This is what he does for a living. For her not to put herself in his hands was foolish and stubborn. She was in Wonderland. At that point she SHOULD have deferred to those around her who weren't. But, she is dim. She just is. She is not sharp at all. A sharp person recognizes how others can help them. A sharp person taps into other's experience, combines it with their own and progresses.
