tmz.com:

Sources tell TMZ an extremely dangerous and potent drug used for surgical anesthesia was found at Michael Jackson's house after he died ... and this may well be the drug that killed him.

We're told the drug Propofol was discovered at the residence. The drug is used to put people under anesthesia before surgery. It is an extremely powerful drug that is only available to medical personnel. As one source said, "There is no conceivable way this drug can be properly prescribed for home use."

Diprivan is an anesthetic used to put people in a state of unconsciousness, during surgery ONLY. It is never, never, never used outside of a hospital setting or operating room and requires intense monitoring of patients. Attention all of you wanna-be celebrities out there, please do not get any bright ideas. And if you find a rogue physician who will administer Diprivan to you, then get your affairs in order.
It’s an open secret that very few physicians or nurses will select general anesthesia if confronted with having a surgical procedure. Most of us will choose an epidural or regional anesthesia instead. Anyone who is remotely connected to medicine knows that the most common and deadly complications of a surgical procedure is not the surgery itself, but general anesthesia. Medical school 101. I’ve had three surgical procedures in my life and only once did I require general anesthesia. I argued with the ophthalmologist up until the day before my procedure and then did a background check on the anesthesiologist prior to him putting me to sleep that would have made the FBI proud.
So, here’s the public service announcement: medication in the wrong hands is deadly. When Michael Jackson was put to sleep, he left us to wake up confronting a nightmare.

Propofol is a totally inappropriate treatment for insomnia. If a doctor injected MJ with diprivan, he/she should have his licenses revoked & face manslaughter charges. Self-injection with propofol seems to me like a really good way to die. I've heard folks say "cardiac arrest rarely occurs with diprivan", but losing your airway from an overdose will quite reliably result in cardiac arrest. It sounds like MJ had some suicidal ideation anyway if his goal was the sort of dreamless sleep propofol provides even for a little bit.

He could have had an underlying depression appropriately treated pharmacologically & perhaps have gotten therapy, which would have taken a while. This would likely have relieved his insomnia & he'd be alive, on tour, and singing. Instead he suffered one of the two inescapable outcomes of addiction: 1) getting caught, or 2) getting dead. He wound up with option #2.

http://www.cnn.com/2009/SHOWBIZ/Music/07/03/jackson.wrap/
....."The anesthesiologist who accompanied Jackson during the 82-date world tour in 1996 and 1997 was Dr. Neil Ratner, the sources said. They said Ratner would keep medical equipment in his hotel room, which he used to monitor Jackson's vital signs when the singer was asleep or "under," as one source put it.The doctor apparently said Jackson had trouble sleeping and that Ratner helped "take him down" and "bring him back up," according to the source."....

Validity added to this story.

Propofol abuse among anesthesiologists:

“As someone who initially was trained with thiopental (Pentothal) as the induction

agent of choice, propofol represented a significant change in my practice. I

even remember my first experience using propofol: a young woman who was

emerging from a MAC anesthesia looked at me as though I were a masked Brad

Pitt and told me that she felt simply wonderful. This bore no resemblance to

my experience with other sedation agents, and I felt then that this might

become an issue of concern for propofol. A feeling of euphoria with no residual

“hangover” might suggest propofol is a near perfect mood-altering drug, but it

is one that possesses a very thin window separating the dreamy state from the

nonresponsive.”

Found some interesting info on propofol abuse among anesthesiologists:

“Propofol abuse shatters careers and lives—and worse. Only a few cc’s more than what’s required to put a person to sleep can trigger fatal respiratory arrest. That threat is an insufficient deterrent for determined users; 40% of residents who reportedly abused the anesthetic died from the high—the peril of propofol’s exquisitely narrow therapeutic window.

“That’s the drive to use this drug. It’s amazing,” said Paul Wischmeyer, MD, an anesthesiologist at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center in Denver. “People who have abused propofol say it’s pretty much their first-choice drug every time.”

Because propofol is such a short-acting substance, heavy abusers must inject it frequently to stay high—as many as 50 to 100 times during a using session is not unheard of, he said. Access to the drug is not a problem, as propofol is among the most widely used anesthetic agents in both hospitals and, increasingly, office settings. “It’s everywhere,” Dr. Wischmeyer said.“

Did anyone check the credentials of this Nurse...I somehow doubt her story and thinks she's an opportunist coming out of the woodpile seeking attention. Michael has had many surgeries and more likey had that drug during one or more of his surgeries. John Roberts on CNN this morning pointed out to her that as a Nurse, she cannot write prescriptions, she then stated MJ asked her to find a Doctor who would get him that drug, yet that wasn't what she first told CNN the previous day.

As far as we know, Michael never participated in psychotherapy. But he was very insightful. He craved the love of others because he did not feel loved by his father. He knew this yet, could not overcome it. He was petrified of becoming "normal." The normal are not adored.

Has anybody mentioned the fact that Propofol is used a a recreational drug?
It's not a scoop, just google it & you shall see.

# ^ Roussin A, Montastruc JL, Lapeyre-Mestre M. Pharmacological and clinical evidences on the potential for abuse and dependence of propofol: a review of the literature. Fundamental and Clinical Pharmacology. 2007 Oct;21(5):459-66. PMID 17868199

or

"Abuse of propofol as a recreational drug has been reported, usually among medical staff such as anaesthetists who have access to the drug.[17] Despite a lack of analgesic properties, propofol's sedative action presumably produces euphoric effects. The steep dose response curve of the drug makes such abuse very dangerous without proper monitoring, and several deaths have been recorded." (Wikipedia)

And we know that Michael Jacskon had met quite a few surgeons all life long, don't we?
With so many surgical operations - the Guiness Book of Records doesn't say, but ... - he probably got addicted to the stuff.
What about a case of Propofol Infusion Syndrome, seasoned with various pill cocktails?

Propofol is also a rich man's recreational drug, providing what russian roulette and fugu sashimi won't. A real high while facing the abyss of death.

Just love this one, so british :

This to me hardly qualifies as what one would really call "recreational" drug abuse. Yes one can google it but if you research this you will see it's not being used by your average dopper.

Researchers report that they studied 29 cases of diprivan abuse, 16 involved residents, 6 were fully credentialed physicians, and 3 nurse anesthetists. In the last five years, according to the article, 9 deaths have been reported amongst medical staff due to Diprivan abuse.

Hey bude, for some reason I really do picture you looking that....!

But the federal law enforcement official said that Propofol is not a controlled substance. "It's not the kind of drug the DEA has seen being abused," the official said.

I know what it's like to have PTSD...Le's tryt o be optomistic here..
MJ may have had a sleeping anxiety disorder. I'm thinking all these child molestation charges that were never proven, caused this. ,he did work very hard to entertain us..8-10 hours a day plus to provide a two hour rockin concert takes all lot of WORK!!!! His BMI was probably ( not).

I feel sad for the family he died to soon. R. I. P

My prayers are with them & you all!!! Please forgive any typos

I feel terribly sad this individual had so much torment. As a survivor of child abuse it can debilitate you for years. So many issues, not the right v oices, even his family used him, still do. It's shameful, but he was a man child, never dealing with or taking the time to deal with the very issues that distorted his world. This is why raising children is so very important to encourage, give confidence, security and love. I feel so badly he never really had the chance to grow to maturation. I will miss him, but also know God will take care of him, and his troubled soul. He finally has the love that all men wish for.

What I don't understand is that here is a man that spent the last 20 years trying to make himself white, bought white kids for his own and married only white women. Why are African Americans making him out as the greatest African American since MLK?

In the music arena, he is just as great. Didn't white Americans think that of Elvis? What is the big deal? People can like whomever they like, there is absolutely nothing wrong with that.
