Sanford Backs Out Of Promise To Release Records

COLUMBIA, S.C. — South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford has backed out of a promise to release personal financial records to the media proving he did not use state money for trips to see his mistress.

A day after Sanford declared in an emotional Associated Press interview that his mistress is his soul mate, spokesman Joel Sawyer says the governor does not want to discuss personal matters in the media anymore. Sanford is providing the records to law enforcement as part of an investigation of his travel to see the Argentine woman.

Sanford agreed this week to provide the AP with proof of his payment for trips to New York and Argentina to see her.

His staff first said the records might be made available Tuesday, and then the governor's spokesman said Wednesday Sanford would not release them.

I think this Governor is slowing losing touch with reality. His 'soulmate'. What is his wife? Chopped liver? He needs to be removed from office. In addition to his moral degradation, which is getting more severe every minute, his biggest issue should still be the fact that he deserted his State. His wife is a strong businesswoman. I believe she's finally had enough of him as well. He has humiliated himself and his entire family by his continued admissions of 'love' for his Argentine tail.

Agreed! SC should have him removed because he deserted the state without taking care of business. HIs mind wasn't on the state's business as was seen by him leaving without letting his second in charge, Lt. Gov, know that he was leaving for 5 days. No one knew where he was or what he was doing. Sanford needs to give his keys to the Lt. Governor and go work on a movie deal, "Another Love Story." I made that up. He used poor judgment while holding office, before and after the latest trip. Any other employee would have been fired for leaving their post unattended as he did.
