Of course Andrew is going to run. It makes no sense nor is there a upside to announce now. He has the luxury to allow Patterson to deal with the current mess without getting dragged into a highly difficult situation and appear disloyal.
He will announce at the appropriate time with almost the full party endorsement.
Rudy is like Palin with a small group of supporters, but neither could win a broad based election, Rudy is toast.
Andrew is the most electable candidate
If Andrew does not run Patterson will give the Governorship to the Republicans.
Andrew, we beg you not to let that happen!
Unfortunately, Patterson is finished. Giuliani governs with bully methods and is generally a thug hated by most New Yorkers. Andrew's Pop did a good job. i would vote for another Cuomo in a heartbeat.
I love Andrew. Please, please don't go the way of Spitzer, keep a clean house and run for Governor already. This state NEEDS some serious clean up!!!!
My sense is Andrew will have a more competent staff than Patterson, but the knock against Patterson's character is from an uninformed person who clearly knows little.
If Cuomo doesn't primary Paterson, I'm moving. We'll be stuck with Rudy Giuliani.
Giuliani is scarier than ANYBODY!
Oh no the horror of having a competent executive branch! For all of the crap that Rudy takes for being unable to string together a sentence that doesn't include 9/11, the good majority of New Yorkers don't disagree with him on more than 5% of issues - he isn't a fanatic Christian or particularly vitriolic national security conservative (as much as he tries to portray himself as one). And let's face it, New York is much better without the squeegee dudes. They used to scare me (of course I was a little kid).
I never used to mind Guiliani, but after watching him through this last election cycle I'm no longer a fan. Though I agree with most of what you said... I just worry that he is now one of those rank and file repubs out for his own glory.
That competence is PR, abetted by a fawning or hoodwinked press. Eight years after firemen's radios failed to work, they were still using the same models when the WTC collapsed. Hundreds of firemen died, needlessly. His emergency headquarters was in the heart of the city, right where terrorists struck, and was so poorly designed, that it rapidly became engulfed in flames. Where was the competence?
Reduction in crime in New York, mirrored the national decline and was probably assisted by policies started by his predecessor.
In his eight years, as mayor, he never seriously addressed the problems of public education, famously calling for "blowing up the Board of Education.
