CNN Tracks Down Bubbles, Michael Jackson's Pet Chimp

On Wednesday night, CNN's Anderson Cooper introduced another of the network's hard-hitting reports in the wake of Michael Jackson's death: An exclusive visit with Bubbles, Jackson's infamous pet chimpanzee.

As Cooper notes:

"Jackson parted ways with Bubbles once the chimp got too big and too hard to control. Bubbles was then kept by an animal trainer until 2005 when he was sent to an animal sanctuary in Florida. That's where we caught up with him. Bubbles is now 26 years old."

Among the details gleaned from the report: Jackson never visited Bubbles at the sanctuary, the chimpanzee likes cucumbers and bananas ("of course") and enjoys making faces.

Who cares? Obviously you do. You took the time to click on this story and read it. That is all news networks want. Every time you click on their web site it is just another statistic for them to show advertisers on their viewership. So as long as you keep reading the "Bubbles' stories," they will keep producing them.

I was done with Anderson Cooper when he auditioned Ozzy Osborne to be his announcer. CNN is a joke. When they admittedly report unverified stories they scrounge from Tweeters, they have lost whatever journalistic integrity they may have had.

This is just one more example of how CNN has continued it's slide into the lower regions of tabloid journalism. There was a time, not all that long ago, that whenever the world was in crisis most people turned to CNN for the pertinent coverage of the events as they unfolded. The CNN organization that, for example, covered the first incursion into Iraq (Desert Storm) and other somber news events with unmatched professionalism is no more. The new CNN instead gives us the likes of Nancy Grace, Jane Velez-Mitchell and Glenn Beck, to name a few. The National Enquirer has to be so very jealous.

I've been a fan of Anderson Cooper for many years, and I feel he is one of the few professional journalists still at CNN, though he's been succumbing to the "Dark Side" more and more as of late. Hopefully, Anderson will leave the sinking ship of CNN while he still has some pride in his profession.

I have some clients who have an animal sanctuary and do school programs, etc. for funding. They sometimes use chimps, but say they are more unpredictable than other primates and tend to get much less socialized and more agressive as they get older, especially males. It is probably the best thing for Bubbles if he is living in an animal sanctuary, not bothered by stupid humans who treat him like something he is not, and make him dress up in dumb outfits for their own personal issues. Although honestly, NONE of this is news...
