CNN Tracks Down Bubbles, Michael Jackson's Pet Chimp

On Wednesday night, CNN's Anderson Cooper introduced another of the network's hard-hitting reports in the wake of Michael Jackson's death: An exclusive visit with Bubbles, Jackson's infamous pet chimpanzee.

As Cooper notes:

"Jackson parted ways with Bubbles once the chimp got too big and too hard to control. Bubbles was then kept by an animal trainer until 2005 when he was sent to an animal sanctuary in Florida. That's where we caught up with him. Bubbles is now 26 years old."

Among the details gleaned from the report: Jackson never visited Bubbles at the sanctuary, the chimpanzee likes cucumbers and bananas ("of course") and enjoys making faces.

What is with CNN?? is it the Jackson channel or what?? lastnight i was flicking channels and Cnn was talking about find bubbles, i was like what the heck is this?/ I channel surfed and on another channel they were talking about the economy, the unemployment # that was coming out on thursday and so on I was just amazed at the lack of new on CNN and how this story made Anderson must feel to not be a real new person anymore , more of a entertainment channel. Good thing there's more actual news on other channels

Von Hagens said that he spoke with representatives of the Jackson family 'many months ago' and it was agreed that his body will be plastinated and placed next to Bubbles, his late pet monkey who was plastinated a number of years ago and is exhibited at The Body Worlds & Mirror Of Time exhibition at the O2 Centre in London.

I thought it was kind of interesting actually. Many of us grew up on MJ's music and were aware of his early years so I'd bet many folks were probably wondering what happened to Bubbles. I thought he had passed, but since they live fairly long lives I assumed he was still around somewhere.
