NEW YORK — James Frey (FRY) is writing for young people, and Hollywood has signed on.

Frey, a former screenwriter best known for his discredited memoir "A Million Little Pieces," is collaborating on a four-book series of teen science fiction novels that HarperCollins will publish.

Screen rights for the first novel, "I Am Number Four," have been acquired by DreamWorks and "Transformers" director Michael Bay.

Frey's co-author is Jobie Hughes, a recent graduate from the creative writing program at Columbia University.

Fiction, right?

Jeeze, haters--did the guy piss in your cornflakes, or what? Give the guy a break--he owned up to his past misdeeds and deserves the chance to try for a productive life. The extremely well-regarded author Lawrence Block called his book on writing "Telling Lies for Fun and Profit" for a reason.

No he doesn't deserve anything. He's a LIED. He lied to MILLIONS of people & for you to defend him reveals your own lack of integrity. It's this lack of concern for the truth that you demonstrate that has wrecked the media, publishing, and totally destroyed our politics and journalism.

If he sold his memoirs as fiction instead of his fiction as memoirs, I think we might have a little more respect for him.

I agree Joe.. everyone deserves a second chance. toocoldout you should be more forgiving because you will have a point in your life when you will crave the forgiveness of someone. It is a shame in the USA that a non-violent incident is treated with such ire. Boo hoo, you read a made up story...get over it. There is a reason that lying to consumers about a product like a book is not against the law. I think this world has bigger fish to Frye!!!

No I will not need forgiving because I have standards and integrity and I WATCH WHAT I DO! This sorry excuse for a man abused the public trust and he is an insult to all the honest authors who now have their stories called into question because of his lack of integrity. We was have a culture in decay because of lack of respect for the truth.

He didn't plagarize. He was an addict who exaggerated his life. I personally hope things get better for him.

His big comeback book only sold 70,000 copies. Looks like he's getting desperate.
