Billings Gazette:

The Montana Pro Life Coalition on Wednesday submitted three proposed constitutional initiatives for the 2010 ballot defining embryos and fetuses as persons with rights, measures that if passed and upheld in courts would effectively ban abortion in Montana.

Each proposal would define a person as a human being from the beginning of the biological development of that human.

If your spouse was in an accident and ended up in the hospital, brain-dead with no hope of recovering, would you keep them alive or would you pull the plug?

Do you opt to keep them alive? Why?

Do you opt to pull the plug? Why?

If you choose to keep them alive aren’t you making that choice more for yourself than for your spouse? What’s their quality of life going to be like? Given a choice, do you think they’d want to be kept around in that state?

If you choose to pull the plug are you doing it because the person you knew is no longer really there? Is it their knowledge, personality & lifetime of experiences that make them the person that they are?

So. If you can consider ending someone’s life because they’re brain-dead, can you consider a fetus a “person” when it doesn’t even HAVE a developed brain yet?

Excellent point and definitely something to consider. Any ban on abortion is only going to encourage the back alley abortion or unfairly target the working poor. Women of means will always be able to find and pay for the procedures that they are looking for.

Un-f'ing-believable. Why are right-wing wackos so invested in the quest to worship stupidity?

When a woman has her monthly period does she collect the $310 death benefit when she tosses her Kotex away ?

Another ploy by the insurance company to charge for "family" coverage when a single mother gets pregnant? After all, if the fetus is a person with rights, then insurance would be for 2 people, not just for a pregnant woman.

First the rights of gays and lesbians to marry the person they love is taken away by majority vote in California, now the rights of women to control their own bodies is subjected to mob mentality in Montana. People are crazy to think that their own civil rights are not just as vulnerable in this country. Oh well, I guess enjoy 'em while you got 'em.

Why start counting at conception, when it might be too late?

Let's count eggs and sperm as POTENTIAL embryos, and imprison men who mas tur bate and women who inadvertently don't conceive on with every egg.

Do you count your age from conception?

why will these people stop meddling in other peoples personal business. it is no ones business who has an abortion but the mother....period, and if you dont want one then dont have one. stop trying to tell everyone else how to live to believe, to be......mind your own business and get a life since you seem to be obsessed with it....everyone else's

For the love of God... If you are against abortion - DON'T HAVE ONE!

It's a woman's personal choice not the countrys' choice.

I agree. If they believe that God is the only one who can judge you, why are they insisting of being the judge and jury? Religion is ruining the world. Religious people want to outlaw abortion and contraception. They want babies and children to starve to death. They want to overpopulate the world. What is wrong with these people? The majority of them believe in the death penalty and torture. The majority of them believe in war.

So true. If they 'care' so much about these children... perhaps they should start providing food, shelter and love to the millions of needy children right here in the US; they have nothing and nobody.

I do not understand their logic at all. The women having abortions are not just saying... hey - get me pregnant so I can kill it. It's a very difficult decision to make, but if SHE FEELS it's the best thing to do... leave it be.

So after a woman goes through the heartbreak of having a miscarriage, she gets to go through the trauma of being arrested for murder?

If the father is in agreement with an abortion does he go to jail as well??
04:16 PM on 07/02/2009
So basically what these folks are saying is that a woman's uterus should be subject to state inspection and control. And that at the moment of conception, a woman immediately forfeits her own rights of "personhood".

Actually there seems to be a very large number of men who are the most vocal...and violent in the anti abortion movement.

If anti-abortionists wish to call abortion ki.ll.ing, then fine. We need to reframe the argument. It would then be justifiable k.il.ling in the same way we justify casualties of war -- innocent women/men/children being ki.ll.ed.

Even if we were to say a fetus is a person, that should in no way impact legal abortions because we have to take into account a woman's body (and that goes along with it) who is (if she doesn't want pregnancy) forced into a kind of slavery for 9 months.

We go to war for supposed defense. Abortion is also (for some/not all) a form of defense. It's justified k.i.ll.ing.
