Sanford's Book Deal Off

Yesterday, word came out that Gov. Mark Sanford had a book deal for a weighty, pre-admitting-to-crossing-lines, tome outlining his 'policy beliefs.' Hold your breath for it no longer: the deal's off.

From his publisher, Via The Page:

"Sentinel has agreed to release Governor Mark Sanford of South Carolina from his contract to write a book about fiscal conservatism, which was to be called WITHIN OUR MEANS and was scheduled for publication in March 2010. This is a mutual decision. We wish Governor Sanford the best."

This kind of makes you think that the publishers weren't all that excited to begin with. If Sanford was an economic whiz and had something to offer to the discourse, his current problems wouldn't make that much difference, but if this was going to be just going to be a rehash of his personal version of conservative fiscal responsibility, backed up by scripture and buttressed by his idea of moral living and personal responsibility, then it never had a chance. I suspect it would contain more of his opinion rather than an objective, fact backed theory. It's success would be more dependent on his personal popularity, and he' s not the most popular guy in town these days.

Sanford lost all credibility as a spokesperson for conservative causes. Not many can be expected to buy a book from a GOP apologist for hypocracy tainted policy from a known hypocite.

Yes.
I am no fan of Sanfords, but there was something yearning about his messages. I will have to give him that the tone seemed about love, and not "sordid" with prostitutes or the like.
I am not saying it was not dishonest, but there was something heartfelt, too.
