Sanford

Yesterday, word came out that Gov. Mark Sanford had a book deal for a weighty, pre-admitting-to-crossing-lines, tome outlining his 'policy beliefs.' Hold your breath for it no longer: the deal's off.

From his publisher, Via The Page:

"Sentinel has agreed to release Governor Mark Sanford of South Carolina from his contract to write a book about fiscal conservatism, which was to be called WITHIN OUR MEANS and was scheduled for publication in March 2010. This is a mutual decision. We wish Governor Sanford the best."

Memo to prospective authors: DON'T give the enire book away in press conferences, interviews and leaked emails in one week. DO have an interesting, refreshing premise.

Say it isn't so! I heard there's a special technique Sanford used on Maria. My husband said he's too afraid to try it without the Governor's written instructions. Curses!

Read between the lines. The special technique that Sinford used on Maria was inspired by her "holding two glorious parts" of herself and having tan lines.

So, if you diligently do what Maria did, your hubby will emulate the Luv Guv. Easy.

Governor Sanford could get a MUCH bigger book deal now. The title would not be: "Within Our Means" but --- look at the emails --- he certainly has a book in him. He could sell a book entitled: "Hiking In Appalachia," since everyone now knows what that means, or he could call it: "Extraordinary Means --- How Love Ruined My Career, My Marriage and My State's Political Party."

There's always "Don't Cry for me South Carolina" or " I'm Going to Argentina in My Mind." the possibilities are endless. If he chucked it all and moved to Argentina to be with his inamorata , he could write a book entitled: "The Duke & Duchess of Buenos Aires."

The real literary opportunity here is the Greek tragedy of a very arrogant guy, being struck by a lightning bolt of love, then attempting to deal with that overwhelming fact within primitive Christian metaphors, However, that would take one of those deep French or Russian novelists to pull it off as literature. Even if he feels like William Shakespeare right now, I don't think Sanford is capable of that level of incite. Never, underestimate the power of love. We'll see.

Gee, didn't see that one coming. I figured he'd be better as a writer of those trashy romance novels.

Would've loved to hear that call -

"Mark, It's kind of like this - We sell books to the religious right. They say they don't make it a policy to do the occasional b00ty call. You say you do. I think we'll be going with Lindsey Graham's book idea "My Cozy Closet".

Instead, the Governor will be inking a product endorsement deal with Kleenex.

Maybe he can write a sequel to Pinocchio or Alice in Wonderland. His nose is getting so long from fibs I doubt he could get near a typewriter though.

When it comes to Sanford, the book deal's not the only thing that is off.
